A Place to Live and Serve

O. T. #1378  "A Place to Live and Serve"

Psalm 122
I was glad when they said unto me, Let us go into the house of the LORD. Psalm 122:1

LET IT GLOW

Step 3: The Lord directs our place to live and serve.

Since my husband has been in the ministry 39 years, we have lived all over our state and even West Virginia. The Lord directed us to the place He had for us live and serve Him each time we moved. Having the peace knowing we were in the right place surely helped us make adjustments to new surroundings and people. Looking back, each was a joy. We are going to know a lot of folks in heaven. One day, dear ones, you and I and our group will meet and worship the Lord Jesus together there.

MacArthur gives us some background of this psalm: David expressed his great joy over Jerusalem, which he had settled by defeating the Jebusites (2 Sam.5) and bringing the Tabernacle and Ark for permanent residency (2 Sam. 6). His joy is that the Ark has found its proper location. David's desire/prayer was temporarily fulfilled in Solomon's reign (1 Kings 4:24,25).

Have we found our place in this world? When we are young, we search for our career and calling. Then, when that is settled in our heart, the place where we are meant to be will be.  Everything will fall into place because we are living and serving Jesus.

LET IT GROW

What was David telling us in this psalm?
  • He was glad to go to the house of the Lord with others. (verse 1)
  • They stood at the gates of Jerusalem, where the judges heard their cases. (verse 2)
  • Jerusalem was built as a compact city. Compact means to go join; have fellowship with.
  • The tribes of Israel gave thanks unto the LORD. (verse 4)
  • They were to pray for peace and prosperity of Jerusalem. (verse 6a)
  • They shall prosper that love God. (verse 6b)

Are we glad to go to the Lord's house for worship and prayer?
When Jesus returns to earth to establish his kingdom for a thousand year reign as King, the Prince of Peace will make Jerusalem His capital city.
We ought to pray for peace in Jerusalem because God's people are there and His house is there.

We are planning on seeing the beloved city of Jerusalem on March 8 during our Holy Land tour. I am looking forward to it, for sure.

LET IT GO

I will gladly go to the Lord's house to worship and give thanks to Him.
I bow before  the throne of Almighty God and pray.
May we find peace there, seek the best for our family and friends, and pray that our nation continues to love Jerusalem.
