Powerful Tongues

Psalm 64

LET IT GLOW

Dare I say that we all have been injured by sharp and bitter words at one time or another in our life?
They can knock us down emotionally and cause us to hide behind closed doors. but our wounds don't have to keep us down. Our God is willing to take care of the situation as He did for David.

David's complaint to God is the hurtful tongue of his enemy. However, His confidence and faith is in God. He is trusting God to take care of those whose tongue speak bitter words is like a sword and arrow.

But God shall shoot at them with an arrow; suddenly shall they be wounded.
(verse 7)

The Hebrew meaning of  arrow refers to that of God, a thunder-bolt.

God's arrow is powerful, wouldn't you say? I would hate to be shot with it.

God's arrows will hit surer, fly swifter, and pierce deeper than theirs do or can.
They(evil people) have many arrows, but they are only bitter words, and words are but wind. But God has one arrow that will be their death. (Matthew Henry)

King David knew he would fail if he depended upon himself, but the king is not by himself. God will interceded in the situation. Then what happens?

The righteous shall be glad in the Lord, and shall trust in Him; and all the upright in heart shall glory. Verse 10

The believers will be glad, trust in God, and glory in God's goodness and righteousness.
Are we ready for that in our life. Hang in there dear one.

LET IT GROW

The power of words-they can cut our heart out or put us on cloud nine. The words of David's enemies were:

  • sharp as swords and bitter as arrows;
  • shot suddenly and fearlessly at the innocent;
  • encourage each other to do evil;
  • plan how to set their traps in secret;
  • plotting crimes with what they consider a perfect plan.
When God hits them with His arrows, those mean things will fall down. Their own tongues will ruin them. People will shake their heads in scorn, be afraid, and proclaim the mighty acts of God, realizing all the amazing things He does.

Out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks, Jesus said.

Jesus' words were loving, righteous, and glorified God. He always knew the best thing to say and when to say it. He is our refuge from hurtful words and our sinful words.
What's our challenge today? Watch our words.

LET IT GO

Watch my words.
Let them be salve to those hurting ones.
Trust in God, be glad, and glorify my God.
