Maybe This Time

O. T. #1266  "Maybe This Time"
August 20, 2018
Psalm 69

LET IT GLOW

David was in affliction, great distress, and trouble whenever he wrote this prayer and song. He cried out to God until he was physically exhausted. That helps us get a better understand where David was coming from, don't you think? David turns to his God in his time of need again. Maybe this time his prayers would be answered.

How does David see God personally?
  • He is a God of abundant, faithful love;
  • His salvation is sure;
  • The Lord's faithful love is good;
  •  He has great compassion;
  • God is able to redeem and ransom;
  • He is righteous.  (Life Application Study Bible)
I am thankful that David wrote these psalms. His example of endurance encourages me and has so many others down through the ages. There is always something he says that speaks to my heart. God has preserved His Word for us believers a few thousand years later. People are people, sinners needing a Savior. There has been a battle with our flesh and with evil almost forever. (Well, since Adam and Eve's time)

So l want to share a blessing that our family experienced yesterday. My 87 year old father in law was baptized by my brother in law, his son. We knew he was saved a few weeks ago. He simply asked Jesus to forgive his sins. We have seen his change of heart. Now, all his children are believers and attend church. We all had to share in this momentous event. There were about 30 of us (included grandchildren and great-grandchildren) who invaded this little country church that my brother in law pastors. One daughter was not present, so we face-timed her so she could watch. There were tears of joy shed that day. Over 21 years of prayers for this man were answered. Never give up on your loved ones. Keep praying for them.

LET IT GROW

David dis not give up on his God rescuing him for his enemies. Look at verses 5-6:
O God, Thou hast known my foolishness; and my sins are not hid from Thee.
Let not them that wait on Thee, O LORD God of Hosts, be ashamed for my sake: let not let those that seek Thee be confounded for my sake, O God of Israel.

David realizes that he has been foolish and his sins could not be hidden from God. God sees all, hears all, and knows all things. David did not want those that trust in God to be ashamed  because of him.

Confounded means ashamed, hurt, insulted, wounded.

David did not want his followers to be humiliated because of him. Even though David's brothers disowned him, he keeps praying:
But I keep praying to You LORD, hoping this time You will show me favor. In Your unfailing love, O God, answer my prayer with your sure salvation. (verse 13)

Maybe this time God will answer our prayer with a "yes."  Are you in need of a "maybe this time?"
If your situation seems hopeless, keep praying, no matter how bad things seems. In His time He will answer and rescue. Just as we kept praying for the salvation of my father in law, although years of nothing happening, one day the "yes" came.

LET IT GO

Precious Savior, You are amazing and awesome!
Thank You God for salvation and Your unfailing love.
Keep my faith growing.
Keep me praying.
Keep me trusting You.
