Luke 8
And certain women, which had been healed of evil spirits and
infirmities, Mary called Magdalene, out of whom went seven devils,
And Joanna the wife of Chuza Herod's steward, and Susanna, and
many others, which ministered unto him of their substance.
Luke 8:2-3
LET IT GLOW
After Jesus' mother and brothers were trying to get close to Him in order
to speak to Jesus and couldn't, He answered in verse 21,"My mother and
brethren are these which hear the word of God, and do it."
Sounds like we are part of the family of God when we become a beliver
and obey His Word. I want to hear It and do It.
LET IT GROW
Does your town have "certain women" that are known around town?
Does your church have them too? I don't mean low moraled women, but
those who are servants. They don't sit around waiting to be served, but do
it, meeting needs? Let's take a look at a few mentioned in this chapter.
Jesus was on tour, preaching the Good News about the Kingdom of God
in nearby towns and villages. He was an itinerant preacher, not confined
to one place, according to Matthew Henry.
Who went along with Jesus, besides the disciples?
There was Mary Magdalene, out of whom had been cast seven devils.
(verse 7) She found mercy and followed Christ. Mark 15-16 mentions her
as one of the women going to Jesus' tomb to annoint His dead body with
spices. (I tried to find details about her conversion, but could not.)
There was Joanna, wife of Chuza, Herod's steward. She had been a wife,
but now a widow and left in good circumstances. She was a hearer of
Christ and a contributor to Him, according to Matthew Henry.
There was Susanna and other women. They ministered to Christ of their
substance. Were they as servants to Him and His disciples? What a
privilege. Though He was rich, Jesus became poor. Jesus preferred to be
beholden to His known friends for His needs rather than to strangers where
He preached. It sounds like His friends also provided monitarily for the
Savior's mission trips.
Do I serve the Savior with the same servant's heart as these certain women
served Him? Am I a "certain woman" to Jesus, a faithful follower?
Isaiah 54:8b says,"But with everlasting love I will have compassion on you,"
says the Lord, your Redeemer. NLT
LET IT GO
Hear God's Word and do It.
Serve the Lord with all my heart.
