Serving in Jesus' Name

N.T.#553 "Serving in Jesus' Name"

May 20, 2025

Luke 9-Part 10

LET IT GLOW

When I was a child, my mom would put on an apron and make homemade biscuits. Nothing like hot biscuits and honey or fresh blackberry jelly. The apron was to protect her clothes from getting flour on them. I don't see people working in the kitchen wearing aprons anymore. Maybe Christians should wear one that says, "Serving in Jesus' name."

So that we don't think too highly of ourself, Jesus says for us to  care for the helpless, needy, and poor. We are to consider children just as important as we adults are, even more so. When we receive (accept) a child's importance in Jesus' name, we are receiving Him and our Heavenly Father. This is because the least among us is the greatest. (verse 48)

In other words, there is no hierarchy in the kingdom of God. There is equal ground at the foot of the cross. We are all called to be humble servants. We are all to seek God's Word and will, take our needs to Him in prayer, and rely upon the Holy Spirit for strength. We are all important in kingdom work. It doesn't matter what spiritual gifts we may have, the church needs us all to meet the needs of the body of Christ there. Besides, we are to all be trusting God like little children.

Who do we need to show the love of God to today?

My take away is teaching children in a Sunday School class or Wednesday nights is just as important as teaching adults. We all need to learn the Bible and grow in faith.

LET IT GROW

Apparently, while the disciples were on their mission of spreading the Gospel, they encountered someone casting out demons in Jesus' name. John was informing the Lord that they told the man to stop because he wasn't in their group. Really guys!

What was Jesus' response? They were not to stop him.

Anyone who is not against us is for us. (verse 50)

Do believers have to be in our organization/denomination in order to show God's love and serve others in Jesus' name? of course not. There are Christian believers everywhere. We all answer to The King Jesus.

The world has a different system. When you are on the highest rung of the corporate ladder, you give the orders so the servants do it you way. In God's kingdom, we are all doing what our Commander says, and we serve each other in love.

LET IT GO

Let go of pride and put on an apron to serve others.

Give/do with a cheerful heart as we serve in love.

Appreciate those who serve us.
