Joy

 N.T.#558 "Joy"

Luke 10-Part 3

LET IT GLOW

What should be our greatest joy? Continue reading, my friend to find out.

When the 70 followers returned to Jesus, how were they concerning their mission? Was it successful or not? Did they minister to others, healing diseases, sharing the repentance message, and Even the demons were delivering folks from demons? Did they share faith in Jesus as their Savior and Messiah? Did they do good works in the name of Jesus? I think "yes" would cover all these questions for answers.

Many questions I have. Few answers are found here. We do know that the 70 returned with joy, which included demons being subject to the name of Jesus. (verse 17)

What insight did Jesus give this group about spiritual matters?

  • Jesus was there when Satan was cast out of heaven because of his betrayal. (verse 18) Soon he will be cast into the lake of fire forever.
  • Jesus has power over harmful things, such as serpents and scorpions. (verse 19a) He protects His children as they obey His will.
  • Jesus has all power over the enemy. (verse 19b) That is why Satan tempted Jesus in the wilderness, so he could obtain that power.
  • Nothing shall by any means hurt you. (verse 19c) We are not to tempt Jesus to use His power for our profit, but it is for His glory.
  • The main thing is not rejoicing that evil is subject to us in Jesus' name. That should not be our focus here. Did you notice that Jesus didn't tell them this ahead of time?
Jesus had empowered His followers and authorized them to minister on His behalf in preparation for His personal visit on the way to Jerusalem. The message is God's. The harvest is God's. Their protection ad provision are God's responsibility. (Swindoll)

LET IT GROW

Did you notice that their significance in the kingdom does not come from their accomplishments in ministry? Their significance is that God has claimed them as His people.

... but rather rejoice, because your names are written in heaven. (verse 20b)

Our greatest joy should be that Jesus has provided our salvation, our faith in Him, and the Holy Spirit convicting us of our sins and need for Jesus. He gives us life and strength to minister in His name. He provides what we need so we can do so. It's all about Jesus.

Do you know this joy, dear one?

LET IT GO

It's all about You, Jesus.
I'm sorry for doing things my way, for my recognition, for my enjoyment and accomplishment.
All is to be done for Your glory, honor, and praise.
Thank You for Your love, mercy, and forgiveness.
