Being a Part of Kingdom Work

N.T.#557 "Being a Part of Kingdom Work"

Luke 10-Part 2

LET IT GLOW As they

I've been on several mission trips in country and out of the country. I have shared my hope in Jesus with children, adults, teachers, and even those doing laundry outside under a tree. How exciting it is when young people come to believe in Jesus as their Savior! And to think that God would use this country girl from a farm had a part in it. Oh what a Savior! No sacrifice is too great in order for souls to get to go to heaven. Are you a part of God's kingdom work?

You will recall that Jesus had sent out His 70 followers to share the Gospel of repentance and to heal the sick. (verses 11-10) He prepared them for rejection, however. When that happens, what were they to do?

  • If a city rejected their message, they were to leave.
  • As they left, the witnesses were to pronounce judgment against the city by shaking its dust from their shoes and declaring the nearness of the kingdom of God. Jews did this when leaving a Gentil territory to show their rejection of the Gentile customs.
  • When a city rejects Jesus as King and despises His kingdom, they will suffer judgment more severe than the fire which consumed Sodom. (Gen. 19) because it had a more complete revelation of divine truth. The Messiah was with them at that time, calling people to repent of their sins. (verses 12-14)
  • Had Tyre and Sidon had such a revelation as these cities near Capernaum, their inhabitants would have repented.
  • Rejection of Jesus brings doom and judgment instead of grace and mercy.
What a commissioning speech. I pray you will not reject the call to believe in Jesus as your Savior.

LET IT GROW

He that heareth you heareth Me; and he that despiseth you despiseth Me: and he that despiseth Me despiseth Him who sent Me. (verse 16)

In the Greek language, despiseth means to set aside; cast off; reject; bring to nought.

In other words, when people reject the message of forgiveness of sin through Jesus and refuse to repent, they reject its messenger, its Savior, and God the Father.

Jesus' ministry involved capturing the hearts of sinners and changing their hearts and lives. Our task is to share this Good News.

What was the reaction and news the 70 had to report? They returned to the Messiah with joy. Mission accomplished. Sounds like they had good results to report, which was not their doing but God's working in hearts.

Are we a faithful follower of Jesus today? Are we accountable to those who serve us and those who call us to serve others?

LET IT GO

Help us keep on keeping on sharing Your love and free salvation.
What do we have that You want to use for kingdom work, Lord Jesus?
We surrender.
