Psalms 32
I will instruct thee and teach thee in the way which thou shalt go: I will guide thee with Mine eye. Psalms 32:8
LET IT GLOW
This is a song of thanksgiving which David composed for the forgiveness of his sins. Blessings come when we experience God's forgiveness of our sin. In fact, in the first couple of verses he speaks of being happy when our sin is forgiven and the Lord does not hold it against us.
Sin cannot be hidden; it must be faced, confessed, and openly dealt with. (Falwell)
Paul quoted these two verses in Romans 4:7 and 8. He says that the man whom God imputed righteousness (treated as if it were theirs) without works is blessed. Also, faith was reckoned to Abraham for righteousness. (verses 6 and 9)
David confessed his sins of adultery with Bathsheba and murder of her husband after the prophet Nathan confronted him.
Do we have the joy of a clean slate? Are we making it a habit of confessing our sins daily? Are we agreeing with God about our sin? That is confession.
LET IT GROW
Lydia Brownback says in her book, sing a New Song, A Woman's Guide To The Psalms:
Repentance restores us to God's paths, and it humbles our hearts to follow His ways. God is faithful to keep His covenant promise never to let us go, and for that reason He doesn't leave us to ourselves. He is faithful to stop His straying people in their fleeing tracks.Read our key verse. Are we listening to God's instructions? Are we looking for His teachings in the way we should go? Is God guiding us with His eye?
Like a parent who gives our child "the eye," and he obeys, do we as children of God?
We need not speak a word and our child understands our intentions with "the eye." Sometimes it means for them to stop what they are doing. Staring long enough can bring submission. Other times it may be an approval eye.
God will give us the best counsel. Then He observes whether we take it or not. Should we ask for God to reveal His will to us when we do not intend to follow it if it is not to our liking? If only we ask and obey.
LET IT GROW
Ask forgiveness of my sins, naming them.
Receive the joy it brings to be forgiven.
Listen and learn the way to go.
Watch for His eye.
