When the Arrows Fly

O. T. 1178  "When the Arrows Fly"
March 27, 2018
Psalms 11

LET IT GLOW

Anyone have arrows of lies, accusations, gossip, or hate fly at you? Many times they have hit me in the heart, bulls eye. What did David do when he experienced that? Did he fly as a bird to the mountains?

What is David saying about God?

  • He is in His holy Temple.
  • He stills rules from heaven.
  • He watches everyone closely, examining every person on earth.
  • He examines both the righteous and wicked.
  • He hates those who do violence.
  • He loves justice.
  • His face will be seen by the virtuous.

In other words, God is still on the throne. The snares mean people lay before the godly, God will turn
them back upon them, being caught in their own snare.
Again, David says he will put his trust in the LORD.
Are we aware that our God is watching everyone? Is Jesus walking and talking with us ?

LET IT GROW

Perhaps David was threatened by King Saul or his son Absalom when he wrote this song. Was he alerted to the threats upon his life? Their bows and arrows were ready as well as being shot at those whose hearts were right.
Are arrows of critical words being shot at us? Are we putting our trust in the Lord?

The foundation of the law and order have collapsed. What can the righteous do?
Foundations is a metaphor for the order of society-the established institutions, the social and civil order of the community (82:5). David's counselors believed the very cornerstones of their nation were in jeopardy, namely the Mosaic Law and other institutions of the faith. Similarly, when we wonder about our cherished values being attacked, do we continue to exemplify them in our little world of influence?

LET IT GO

Stand in strong faith when the arrows come.
Remember the Lord's shield of love surrounds us.
