Shout for Joy

O.T. #1388  "Shout for Joy"

Psalm 132
Let priests be clothed with righteousness; and let Thy saints shout for joy. Psalm 132:9

LET IT GLOW

Step 13: The Lord is my help.

Had any restless nights? I like to pray and read God's Word whenever that happens to me. David had a restless night in our chapter today.

This psalm is not counted as one which David wrote. MacArthur considers it to have been written when Solomon dedicated the Temple (2 Chron. 6:41). Solomon quoted his father David in verses 8-10. We will not get ahead of our self and look at verses 1-7 first:
  • In his prayer, David asked the Lord to remember him and his hardships that he endured. (verse 1)
  • Even in his affliction, David made a vow unto the Lord, which is not recorded. (verse 2)
  • He desired a resting place that was permanent for the Ark. (verse 3)

When David became king over Israel, he built a beautiful palace in which he resided, but there was no elaborate Temple in which God resided at that time. We read of the building of the Tent where the Ark of the Covenant was built back in the book of Exodus. When its presence was with Israel, then it was a symbol of God's presence with Israel. It bothered David so much (He lived in a better dwelling than God.) that he couldn't sleep, so he began to lay out plans for the Temple to house the Ark. (His son, Solomon, actually built the Temple, although he used David's plans and materials accumulated.) (verse 4)

Are we restless until God's will in done in our life?
Is there something that God has put on our heart and we can't rest until is completed?

LET IT GROW

Now look at verses 8-10. We know that the Ark was placed within the Holy of Holies. The priests attended to the Tabernacle. The Levites wore their white robes, symbolizing righteousness. A select choir of Levites sang praises to God in worship.

Psalm 32:11 says, Be glad in the LORD, and rejoice, ye righteous: and shout for joy, all ye that are upright in heart.

Happiness is not only our privilege; it is our duty as well. (Falwell)

Hmm. Something to chew on, huh?
Are we clothed in the righteousness by the blood of Jesus Christ?
Are we shouting for joy when we consider all that Jesus saved us from and our eternal home His is building?

LET IT GO

Lord, in my restlessness, speak to my heart.
As Isaiah said, "Here am I, Lord, send me."
Change my heart to one that shouts and sings for joy because of You.
