Psalm 119-Part 4
Deal bountifully with Thy servant, that I may live, and keep Thy Word.  Psalm 119:17

LET IT GLOW

This is stanza 3 in this chapter. Right off, David is identifying himself as a servant of God. He is asking God to deal bountifully with him. So, being a word-nerd, I looked up the meaning of both words, deal and bountifully. I found something interesting. The same Hebrew word is used for both.

Deal and bountifully mean to treat a person well; benefit; bestow on; do good; reward.

How does David want God to treat him, to deal with him? He desires to be treated well and rewarded; he wants God to do good to him. What would David then do? David asks for this in order for him to live and keep God's Word.
So is it acceptable for us to ask God to deal bountifully with us? David did. Do we intend to keep God's Word if He does? Such as caring and sharing, living and giving? Are we dealing bountifully with others? Is there someone who needs a words of encouragement or love shown them?

LET IT GROW

In verse 18, David is asking God to do another thing-open his eyes. Why? He wanted to behold wondrous things out of God's law.
Wondrous refers to distinguish; difficult; marvelous; wondrous things or works.

With a new year approaching us, David wanted to read about the marvelous works of his God in the Word. We have read about the wondrous things which god did in and through and around His servant David.
Do we share with others the wondrous things God has done in the Bible and in our life?

Another thing, 13 times David or another author uses the phrase "Your servant." Verse 17 is the first  of them. It is also used in verses 23, 38, 49, 65, 76, 84, 122, 124, 125, 135, 140, 176. do you think he considers himself as one of God's servants? Do we?

LET IT GO

Thank You for dealing bountifully with me, Father.
Thank You for your wondrous things I have seen and read.
Praise the Lord God Almighty.
