A Whole Heart

O. T. #1353  "A Whole Heart"
Dec. 27, 2018
Psalm 119-Part 2

LET IT GLOW

I didn't mention this at the beginning of our chapter of study, but it is quite poetic. It is constructed of 22 sections or stanzas. Each one corresponds to a different letter in the Hebrew alphabet. Each verse begins with the letter of its section. Most verses mention God's Word.

Section 1 consists of verses 1-8. God has given us directions for our life in nine different terms for Scriptures:
  • the law (verse 1)
  • testimonies (verse 2)
  • His ways (verse 3)
  • precepts (verse 4)
  • statutes (verses 5 and 8)
  • commandments (verse 6)
  • righteous judgments (verse 7)
  • Word (verse 9)
  • ordinances.
We are so blessed to have the Word of God put together in the Bible and preserved all these years. Are we realizing it? Are we reading it? Do we treat it as Words to us from our God?

LET IT GROW

How are we to keep His Word and seek God?
  • Verse 2 tells us with a whole heart. This phrase occurs 6 times in this chapter-verses 2, 10, 34, 58, 69, 145.
Heart refers to intellect, volition (choice or decision), and emotion. (MacArthur)
  • diligently (fast, good, quickly),
  • uprightness of heart.
Are we basing our choices and decisions upon the Word of God? Are we doing what is right in God's eyes? Following Jesus is the right thing to do, even when we are criticized for doing so. It may look like we are surrounded by evil, but we are surrounded by a loving God.

LET IT GO

Help me follow You with my whole heart.
