Luke 13-Part 5
LET IT GLOW
Jesus offered two parables to describe God's work in bringing His kingdom. The first described the kingdom of God like a tiny mustard seed which grows to be large enough for birds to nest on its branches. God's kingdom began small with 12 disciples and has expanded to billons of believers.
The second parable describes the kingdom of God like a leaven which a woman mixed into a batch of flour for bread. Here, a small amount of yeast or leaven can grow the flour into big loaves of bread, doubling its size. Leaven has always been representative of sin in the Scriptures. The sins of others oftentimes challenge the believer. Sinners need a change of heart before entering the kingdom of God, faith in Jesus Christ as Savior.
God delays His final judgment so sinners have the opportunity to repent and receive forgiveness of their sins. Do you have loved ones who need Christ as their Savior?
LET IT GROW
"Lord, are there few being saved?" (verse 23)
Someone asked Jesus that question. We cannot save ourselves. We can only enter through the narrow door (Jesus) to get into heaven. No amount of works can make us favorable in God's kingdom. It requires faith and repentance of sin. Reality is, few have or will acknowledge their sins and seek Jesus' forgiveness.
What matters to God is not a person's earthly popularity, status, wealth, heritage, or power but their commitment to Christ and knowing Him. One day many people will be outside the door/gate. They will send themselves to hell because they don't know Jesus. How sad that will be. (verses 27-28)
LET IT GO
Where will you spend eternity? For those camping in Texas, it came quickly in the night in the form of flooding waters.
Praying for the families and friends of them to be saved and comforted.
