Ezekiel 39
LET IT GLOW
David was in deep despair and doubt, and fearful instead of full of faith. He wrote Psalm 56 when he fled from Saul to the Philistine territory. David had to pretend to be insane so they would not kill the giant slayer of Goliath. Are you there, too, friend?
Despite his circumstances, how did David react?
What time I am afraid, I will trust in Thee. In God I will praise His Word, in God I have put my trust; I will not fear what flesh can do unto me. (Psalm 56:3-4)
When I cry unto Thee, then shall mine enemies turn back: this I know; for God is for me. (verse 9)
In God have I put my trust: I will not be afraid what man can do unto me. (verse 11)
For Thou hast delivered my soul from death: wilt not Thou deliver my feet from falling, that I may walk before God in the light of the living? (verse 13)
What can mere mortals do to us? Oh, they can kill our body, but not our soul. But the enemy did not kill David; when David was afraid, God was there. David praised God, trusted in God, cried unto God.
What did God do? He delivered David from death, delivered him waling in a godly way, and delivered David so he could praise God. Eventually, David became king of Israel.
Look at the last part of verse 13-that I may walk before God in the light of the living? The phrase, light of the living, can be translated light of life, as Jesus used it in John 8:12, ...I am the light of the world: he that followeth Me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life.
As we follow the Lord Jesus today, we enjoy fullness of life and the glorious light of His presence. We walk in light. (The Wiersbe Bible Commentary)
Do you know the Light of Life, Jesus Christ, as your personal Savior and Light?
LET IT GROW
Previously, we found out God will bring Gog (modern Russia) and its allies down from the north into Israel. God's jealous wrath will pour out in the atheist enemies as He sends rain, hailstones, fire and brimstone upon them. This huge army will be killed and it will take Israel 7 months to bury them.
Why would God do this? The Wiersbe Bible Commentary explains:
- This victory will reveal the greatness of the Lord as He displays His power before the nations. (39:23)
- It will reveal His holiness as He judges the sins of the leader from Magog and deals with his enmity against the Jews.
- The victory will make Jehovah known to the Gentile nations, and the world will see that the God of Israel is the only True and Living God.
- Most importantly, Israel will recognize the holiness of God and be convicted of her own sins. (When they see the Messiah, the Jews will trust in Christ and repent of their sins and trust Jesus for their salvation.) (37:25-38)
In the Battle of Armageddon, God will be victorious with divine intervention. Jesus will reign 1,000 years. God will pour out His Spirit on His people. (Joel 2:28-29)
He has it all planned out. God is the only Light of Life.
LET IT GO
Jesus, You are so good to us. You are good, so good. You never let us down.
Lift us up when we get in discouraged and in despair.
Grow our faith.
Let Your light shine down on us so all will see Jesus and we fell the light of Your presence.
