Isaiah 54-Part 2
LET IT GLOW
There are still more thoughts on verse 2 which I did not discuss. It was not only written to Judah before they went into captivity and their return to desolate Jerusalem, but it applies to the New Testament church, and today's church, also. Just like the returnees were to enlarge their city because more returnees were going to come back, so the N.T. church was told to enlarge the church to include Gentiles. Because the Pharisees and Scribes rejected Jesus as the Messiah, grace was stretched out to those who were not Jews. We saw this at Pentecost when thousands became believers. Paul and others pulled up the pegs and went into their world spreading the good news of salvation in Christ.
How does this apply to today's churches?
- We are to lengthen the cords, making more room as we seek to win those in our communities for Jesus, as well as bring back the straying sheep.
- We are to teach and listen to the Word, then have a deeper walk of faith.
- We are to tighten our grip on Jesus, have a firm grip on our beliefs, and confirm the Word in our life.
- We are to give support for the evangelistic work by giving abundantly from our means.
Thank you friends for continuing with us through this study of Isaiah. It is so rich in verses of faith, and more is to come as we dig deeper in the Word.
LET IT GROW
Here is another thing I read and wanted to share.
William Carey preached a sermon on world missions delivered on May 31, 1792. His efforts eventually led to the formation of Baptist Missionary Society, which became the forerunner of the modern missionary movement. He went to India as a missionary to spread the gospel.
Two things Carey said in his sermon:
- Expect great things from God;
- Attempt great things for God.
What is God leading you to do? When we obey, then we will have peace in knowing we are pleasing God and we will see Him working through us. Also, we will receive blessings that would not come otherwise. He will provide what we need to carry it out.
LET IT GO
... and let God be God, in control.
...and let God lead and do His will.
