Proverbs 22
A good name is rather to be chosen than great riches, and loving favor rather than silver and gold.  Proverbs 22:1

LET IT GLOW

The adjective good does not appear in the Masoretic text. Name conveys the idea of reputation, or character. A continuous display of that grace that wins love is commended here. (Falwell)

What two things are more valuable than great riches?
  1. To be well spoken of is to be more important to us than great estates and money. This opens up the door of opportunity to do good things.
  2. To be well loved and to be esteemed and held with high affections of those around us is better than silver and gold.
Choose a good reputation over great riches; being held in high esteem is better than silver or gold. New Living Translation

Christ grew in favor with God and man (Luke 2:52), We are to set our hearts on those things which are lovely and of good report (Philippians 4:8).

There we are, folks. What is our focus in life? Is it on Jesus or money? Is it on a righteous life or a self-serving life? What do others say about us? Is our faith shining today?
I wonder what others say about me whenever I am not around. Hmm.

LET IT GROW

By humility and fear of the LORD are riches, and honor, and life. (Verse 4)

Humility is the absence of pride. It includes a teachable and disciplined spirit. What are found in a life of true humility?  True riches, honor, and eternal life are.
Finding favor with God and respecting Him should be one of our priorities. Those matured for the Kingdon sake were willing to give up everything.
How is our attitude today?

LET IT GO

May I seek to have a good name-faithful servant of Jesus Christ.
May I be rich in love and obedience to You.
