Matthew 14-Part 2
LET IT GLOW
Sin will take you farther than you want to go. Sin will keep you longer than you want to stay. sin will cost you more than you want to pay. I think there is a song with those lyrics. This seems to be the take away from the first thirteen verses.
What lessons can we learn from these horrible people?
- Herodias teaches us how dangerous and disastrous it is to nurse a grudge and seek revenge. Having her daughter dress like an exotic dancer, manipulate her husband in public, and call fro the unjust murder of an innocent man, John the Baptist. This adulterous woman messed up her family.
- Herod Antipas teaches us about the power of peer pressure. Instead of going back on his oath to Salome, the king cared more about what the people around him thought of him instead of doing what was right.
- Salome teaches us about the treachery of rationalization. She convinced herself it was okay for a princess to appear half naked and perform a lewd striptease before the king and his guests.
- This event teaches us about the seductiveness and addictiveness of sin. Sin poisons relationships, leads to greed and sometimes murder. (Swindoll's Living Insights on Matthew)
LET IT GROW
Are you holding a grudge against someone?
Do you show off in order to impress others, yet know deep down it is wrong?
Is following orders more important than doing right?
Are we willing to tell the truth to people, calling sin a sin, no matter the cost?
Will we do a self-check before leaving the house concerning our appearance, our attitude, and our priorities?
LET IT GO
Help us love You, Jesus, with all our heart, soul, and mind.
Use our body for Your glory today.
