Ezekiel 10-Part 2

LET IT GLOW

As a review, what was God seeing take place in the future for Judah? The Jews, in all their immorality and idolatry, thought the Lord was not seeing what they were doing. Also, they though He had forsaken them. (8:12) Ezekiel saw in a vision that this was not true. Because He did see all the abomination they were doing in His Temple. the glory of the God of Israel left the Holy of Holies and moved toward the threshold. (9:3) Then in chapter 9, the angelic man clothed in linen (I think it was Jesus) went through Jerusalem marking the faithful remnant who were crying over their beloved city. Six angelic men were sent throughout the city killing those without the mark. (Apparently only angels could see that mark.) As the land was filled with blood and perversion, the Jews again said that the LORD had forsaken the earth and seeth not. (9:9)

Now, in chapter 10, it was a second time that Ezekiel saw the cherubims over the throne of sapphires (like a chariot). I think it was Jesus seated there, for the Son was told to take coals of fire in His hand and scatter them over the city. We know this vision came true that the prophet wrote when Jerusalem was destroyed by fire (of the Babylonians) in 586 B.C. It was actually fire from the Lord in His judgment.  (2 Kings 25)

Again we read of a chariot similar to that in the vision in chapter 1. There were wheels, eyes, and faces.

God has never had to come back to pick up something He has forgotten. He doesn't need to deviate from one side to the other; He never detours. He goes straight forward today toward the accomplishment of His purpose in the world. (J. Vernon McGee's book, The Prophets, Ezekiel)

Since the faces described are figurative, they picture the deity of Christ in the Gospels:

  • the face of a cherub-pictures the servanthood of Christ in Mark;
  • the face of a man-pictures the humanity of Christ in Luke;
  • the lion-kingship of Christ, the lion of Judah in Matthew;
  • the eagle-pictured the deity of Christ in John. (McGee)

Christ shed His blood that we might have eternal life-He made the Mercy Seat and provided the blood that covers our sins. Hallelujah! Those are the reason to love Him more, folks.

LET IT GROW

I have heard that when the glory of God departed from the Temple, Ichabod was written over the door. I can't find it, though. Here is what I did find:

In 1Samuel 4:21, we read of the priest Phinehas, son of Eli, was killed by the Philistines and the Ark of the Covenant was captured. His wife had a child and she named him Ichabod. Ichabod means no glory, in Hebrew.

The glory of the Lord will return to the Temple when Jesus returns as King during His Millennial reign. (43:1-12) God is working out His plan. Are we ready? Dear one, do you know Jesus as your Savior?

LET IT GO

Jesus, You see all, know all, and have it all planned.

Use us to share Your salvation while there is time.

Thank You for providing eternal life for us.
