Luke 22-Part 2 

LET IT GLOW

And so it begins. Everything Jesus did in the last 6 months was due to His knowing the end of Jesus' life was coming. Now the last Passover and instituting of the Lord's Supper was at hand. 

Behind the scenes Judas Iscariot went plotting with the chief priests to betray Jesus.  The religious leaders needed inside help to find where Jesus went each night. (During the day He taught in the Temple with thousands of witnesses around, so they could not harm Jesus there and then.)

Who was this Judas? (John 18 tells us more details.)

• He was one of the 12 disciples of Jesus. 
• He was in charge of the money bag and a greedy fellow. He even got paid for the betrayal/information.
• He was possessed by Satan, an easy thing, since Judas loved money. (verse 3)
• Then he talked with the chief priests and captains concerning how he might betray Jesus and giving Him over to them. (verse 4)
• Judas, being part of Jesus' group, knew where He went in the evenings away from the crowds and the city, to the Mt. of Olives. 
• He led a band (600 Roman soldiers) of officers and men, chief priests and Pharisees, going to the secret place. They had lanterns, torches, and weapons. (verse 3)

LET IT GROW

The evil ones carried lanterns and torches to take the Light of the world and Prince of Peace as a prisoner.

Jesus was completely aware of Judas' plan. Jesus went forth from the garden to meet this crowd approaching the gate. He could see them coming up the hill. Notice that Jesus did not run and hide, for He always face His adversaries head on. He was prepared, prayed up.

Give us strength to stand for You, King Jesus, Light of the world, Prince of Peace, Savior and Redeemer, Almighty God.
