Luke 5-Part 6
LET IT GLOW
So what can we learn from the paralytic in Capernaum who was healed?
- We all need loving friends. Friends who will go the extra mile for us. Also, we need to be that kind of friend, too.
- Many people won't hear about salvation unless we lift a corner of their stretcher and carry them to the place where they can hear the Word of the Lord.
- Folks become paralyzed by sin and things the world have a stronghold on them.
- Some are paralyzed by prejudice or indifference.
- As it took 4 men to carry this man to Jesus, it may take more to bring our loved ones or friends to Him.
Will we be the one? Do we hold up the banner of Jesus in our workplace, at the ballgames, in our neighborhood? Do we sense the urgency? People die every day. Where will they spend eternity?
LET IT GROW
Jesus had 4 fishermen in his group of disciples. Then Jesus encountered a tax collector sitting and doing his job collecting taxes. When Jews served as tax collectors for the Roman government they were considered traitors by their countrymen. They often padded their own pockets by collecting more than necessary. But Jesus didn't avoid such a sinner. He extended the call to Levi, which we know him by Matthew, to follow Him. Matthew obeyed. (verses 27-28) (Evans)
We see a result of Matthew's repentant heart as he hosted a grand banquet for Jesus at his house, inviting his fellow tax collectors and others to meet Him. (verse 29)
When we truly encounter Jesus, it's not enough to follow Him. We want others to know the joy of following Him, too.
LET IT GO
Help us deny ourself, take up our cross, and follow You, King Jesus.
Fill us with Your love overflowing to others.
