A Changed Life

Luke 5-Part 3

Previously, we read about Peter sitting in his boat with Jesus while He taught the crowd. Peter probably did not expect an encounter with God at such a time and place like this. Jesus rewarded Peter for his time and gave him an abundance catch of fish. Peter realized he was a sinful man and Jesus is Lord. (verse 8)

This was the beginning of a 3-year journey with the Messiah, Savior, Redeemer. The four men left their boats, business, forsaking all in order to follow Jesus, learn of His teachings, experience miracles, and join in God's kingdom work. What have you left behind in order to follow Jesus?

After recruiting His first group of disciples, Jesus continued on His mission of teaching and healing. The group moved on to a city not mentioning which one. What did they encounter there?

  • A man full of leprosy fell on his face when he saw Jesus.
  • The man said to Jesus, Lord, if thou wilt, thou canst make me clean. (verse 12)
  • The leper wasn't doubting Jesus' ability, but the Lord's willingness to cleanse him. It was as if he said, "I don't blame You, either way."
  • He expected nothing, didn't bargain with God, or to justify his condition.
  • He merely presented his need to the Lord and remained open to receive whatever Jesus might offer. (Swindoll)
Do we come to Jesus, humbling ourselves before a holy God? Or do we try to handle problems on our own?

LET IT GROW

Not only was Jesus willing to heal the leper, but He was willing to do the unthinkable-touch the man. (Leprosy was contagious so the man had been shunned by society as an untouchable.) Jesus had the ability to speak a word and the miracle would happen to the man. (He had healed 20 miles away with His word, in John 4.) The Master chose to touch the man, as if saying his disease didn't prevent Him from accepting him.

With a touch of the Master/Savior's hand, the man's life was changed forever.

My friend, have you received the touch of Jesus? Has He become your Savior? Are you following Him wholeheartedly?
When was the last time Jesus touched your life, your soul? Are you in need of a cleansing?

If we confess our sins, Jesus is faithful and just to forgive our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. (1 John 1:9)

LET IT GO
We bow before You, Holy Jesus.
Use us today to share Your Word and love to others.
