Go Tell It On The Mountain

Isaiah 13

LET IT GLOW

Thank you everyone for your faithfulness to join together as we study this book of the Bible. I pray you will continue through these difficult prophesies ahead. Chapters 13-23 are burdens (oracles) written to 7 different nations. They are pagan nations surrounding Judah, which Prophet Isaiah saw visions of their future divine judgment. So please stick with us.

So I sat down and made out my own timeline of events which happened to Judah. It was easier for me, being a visual learner, to comprehend so many events that Isaiah wrote about.  (The years are B.C., Before Christ's birth.) Keep in mind that Judah will have a remnant of believers who will remain faithful to God through it all. It is through them, the lineage of David, that the Messiah, Jesus Christ will come.

1. The Burden of Babylon

Isaiah sees into the future when Babylon Empire will be overtaken by the Medes.
What is he to do, according to verses 1-3?
  • Lift up a banner upon the high mountain;
  • exalt the voice unto them, call up an army against Babylon;
  • wave your hand to encourage them as they march into the palaces of the high and mighty;
  • the LORD called mighty warriors to express His anger, and they will rejoice when He is exalted.

Isaiah was told to go tell it on the mountain.
In Matthew 28:19, Jesus tells us to Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost; Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world.

This is a good season for us to use the opportunity to tell our family, friends, and neighbors about the true reason for the season-Jesus Christ.

LET IT GROW

Babylon is modern day Iraq. Verses 19-22 tell us that they both will be in utter ruin. Buried in sand. One day they will uninhabited, too. Perhaps it will take the vanishing of oil there or a war.
At any rate, we know God destroyed Babylon and He can do it to Iraq.

LET IT GO

Share the good news, a Savior has come, died for our sins, and rose from the grave, now sitting at the right hand of God, making intercession for us.
Halleluiah!
