A King, Lion, and Root

Ezekiel 19-Part 2

LET IT GLOW

In the last declining years, Judah was like a lion with two young lions. We found out those two were the two kings Jehoahaz (died in Egypt) and Jehoiachin (died in Babylon).

The second likening of Judah is to a very fruitful vine. The last king in Judah was Zedekiah.

What happened to those vines?

  • Neb left him on the throne in Jerusalem, like an intact vineyard, still planted in the holy land to flourish if he would keep his covenant with Neb of Babylon.
  • Zedikiah broke his word, and the Babylonian army uprooted Jerusalem in a fury as a fire consumed the holy city. (verse 10-11)
  • The people were deported to a dry and thirst land (verse 13)
  • There was no longer a strong branch, a scepter for ruling. (verse 14)

Isaiah predicted that there would be none of the house of David to have the right to rule in Jerusalem. (Isaiah 3:6,7) this happened 150 years later. After Zedekiah broke his word with Neb, he was blinded during his eleventh year of reign and taken as prisoner to Babylon. He had seen his two sons killed before being made blind.

LET IT GROW

The house of David ended in shame and, for nearly 2,600 years since, Israel has had no king of David's line. When the Messiah came, they rejected Him and preferred Caesar. The Messiah, Jesus Christ, still became their Savior, though some do not recognize Him as such, and will return to be their King.

The branch and scepter will be restored in Jesus Christ when He comes to rule on His millennial throne. He is the Son of David (Matthew 1:1), the King of Israel (John 1:49), and the Lion from the tribe of Judah, the Root of David. (Rev. 5:5). (Tony Evans)

And one of the elders saith unto me, Weep not; behold, the Lion of the tribe of Judah, the Root of David, hath prevailed to open the book, and to loose the seven seals thereof. (Rev. 5:5)

Jesus is that Lion of the tribe of Judah. Is He your King, Lion, Root of your faith?

LET IT GO

Thank You Father for having our history, future, and destination sealed.

Worthy is the Lamb of praise and glory!
