Ezekiel 25-Part 5

LET IT GLOW

The LORD is my strength and my shield; my heart trusted in Him, and I am helped: therefore my heart greatly rejoiceth; and with my song will I praise Him. the LORD is their strength, and He is the saving strength of His anointed. (Psalm 28:7-8)

Give unto the LORD the glory due unto His name; worship the LORD in the beauty of holiness. (Ps. 29:2)

The LORD will give strength unto His people; the LORD will bless His people with peace.        (Ps. 29:11)

LET IT GROW

Have you noticed that the nations so far were bordered with Israel? The cup of God's wrath was going around, according to Matthew Henry. This was due to them worshiping man-made deities and idols.

Today we will look at the fourth nation to receive God's judgment-Philistia. They located themselves on the southern coast of Canaan, so they were sea people. The Philistines were descendants of Mizraim, the son of Ham, who was Noah's son. (Genesis 10:14)

One commentary said there were 7 battles that the Philistines had in the Old Testament. We will recall that Samson killed many, as well as David and his giant. So, their sin was to take revenge upon Israel(Judah), and had a spiteful heart, held onto old grudges. (Judges 13-16)  Abraham and Isaac had encounters with their King Abimelech. The Philistines constantly harassed and oppressed Israel until David broke their power during Saul's reign. (1Sam. 17) The Promised Land included the land of the Philistines.

They repeatedly rose up and were subdued by Israel. The Assyrians devastated the Philistines' land when they overtook Israel. (2Kings 18:33-35) Then the Babylonians invaded their land. (Jeremiah 47) Finally, the Maccabees exterminated them.

Dagon was the god of the Philistines. It was a grain deity. (Judges 16:23) Therefore, we can understand why God's judgment came upon this nation.

Are you holding onto an old grudge? Has it turned into a spiteful heart? In the same way we forgive others, God will forgive us. Something to consider.

LET IT GO

Be my strength and shield, Jesus.

You alone are worthy of glory, worship, and praise.

Thank You for Your peace as I go through troubled waters.

I trust in You.

Ezekiel 25-Part 4

LET IT GLOW

That I may publish with the voice of thanksgiving, and tell of all Thy wondrous works. (Ps. 26:7)

The LORD is my light and my salvation, whom shall I fear? The LORD is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid? When the wicked, even mine enemies and my foes, came upon me to eat up my flesh, they stumbled and fell. (Ps.27:2-3)

One thing have I desired of the LORD, that will I seek after; that I may dwell in the house of the LORD all the days of my life, to behold the beauty of the LORD, and to enquire in His temple. (Ps. 27:4)

And now shall mine head be lifted up above mine enemies round about me: therefore will I offer in His tabernacle sacrifices of joy; I will sing, yea, I will sing praises unto the LORD. (Ps.27:6)

Teach me Thy way, O LORD, and lead me in a plain path, because of mine enemies. (Ps. 27:11)

Wait on the LORD: be of good courage, and He shall strengthen thine heart: wait, I say, on the LORD. (Ps.27:14)

LET IT GROW

The third nation in God's judgment is that of Edom. It was located south of Moab from the Dead Sea to the Gulf of Aqabah. It was a rouged terrain and mountainous. In order to get to its capital, one had to travel through a narrow canyon guarded by 200-250 feet high mountains.

Who were the Edomites? They were descendants of Esau, Jacob's twin. Therefore, they were blood brothers of the Jews since both descended from Isaac. (Genesis 25) Although, God loved Jacob and hated Esau. Edom's hatred of Israel began with Esau selling his birthright. Edom never forgave and always sought to pay back double; but God must now deal with her, erasing her as a nation.

Why was Edom going to be annihilated?

  • They rejected Moses' request to pass through their land. (Numbers 20)
  • They opposed King Saul. (1Samuel 14:47)
  • They fought against David. (1 Kings 11)
  • They opposed Solomon (1 Kings 14) and Jehoshaphat. (2 Chron. 21)
  • They rebelled against Jehoram. (2 Chron. 21)
  • During the reign of Ahaz, they won back independence.
  • They acted like a cheering section for Babylon to conquer Judah.

All three nations, Ammon, Moab, and Edom, have disappeared as separate nations, being absorbed into the Arab peoples. (MacArthur)

We better watch out if we are opposing, rejecting, fighting, or rebelling against one of God's children or anointed? We should leave it to God to handle them, taking revenge for us.

LET IT GO

I will rejoice, for I am a child of God.

I will sing Your praises, King Jesus, my Risen Savior.

All of my fears like Jericho's walls have to come down.

Different or Like Others?

O. T. #1911  "Different or Like Others?"

Ezekiel 25-Part 3

LET IT GLOW

The earth is the LORD's, and the fullness thereof; the world, and they that dwell therein. for He hath founded it upon the seas, and established it upon the floods. Who shall ascend into the hill of the LORD? or who shall stand in His holy place? He that hath clean hands, and a pure heart; who hath not lifted up his soul unto vanity, nor sworn deceitfully. He shall receive the blessing from the LORD, and righteousness from the God of his salvation. (Psalm 24:1-5)

Who is this King of glory? The LORD strong and mighty, the LORD mighty in battle. (Psalm 24:8)

Who is this King of glory? The LORD of host, He is the King of glory. (Psalm 24:10)

I needed verse 8 today. I am facing another battle in my body and needed to be reminded that our God always wins battles. He used David to kill the giant Philistine; He used Joshua to bring down the wall of Jericho; He used Elijah to kill the prophets of Baal; He used Moses to defeat the Egyptians; He used Jesus to defeat the power of the grave and Satan. I trust Him for the outcome.

The battle belongs to God. If He is for me, then who can be against me that is victorious? None. I am an overcomer. Nothing can stand against the power of the Lord my God. I needed to hear those words in songs this morning. Please remember me in prayer Wednesday morning as I have a biopsy. Whatever road God has for me to walk on, He will walk it with me. To God be the glory.

LET IT GROW

Last time, we read about the nation of Ammonite people, the first of seven nations that God was going to judge by having the Babylonians conquer them. Ammon was the child of the youngest daughter and Lot.

The second nation was Moab, who was the child of the oldest daughter and Lot. Their land was east of the Jordan River, the upper end of the Dead Sea. (Genesis 19)

The reason for the judgment (verse 8) was their gloating over Israel's fall and their scorn in saying Israel was like all other people with no privileged position before God. (MacArthur)

Israel was God's special people with whom He had manifested Himself in great power, and glory in Egypt, the Red Sea, the wilderness experiences, and in the conquering of the land to possess it. (Falwell)

Moab was pleased to see Israel forsake their God and worship idols, and hoped that in a while their religion would be quiet lost and forgotten and the house of Judah would be like all the heathen, perfect idolaters. They hoped in time it would sink and be run down, and quite abandoned.

Both the Ammonites and the Moabites were conquered by the Babylonians in the fifth year after the destruction of Jerusalem. They became absorbed in the Arabian people.

You will recall in the book of Ruth that it began with a famine in Israel and Naomi, her husband, and two sons left for the land of Moab. While there the sons married Moabite women, one of which was Ruth. (Jewish law prohibited intermarriage.) Then their men died and Ruth with Naomi went to Israel. Ruth married Boaz, an Israel kinsman-redeemer of Naomi. A Moabite was admitted to the congregation when Ruth and Boaz had Obed, who had Jesse, who had David. Jesus Christ came through the lineage of King David. (Matthew 1:5-16). (Mary's husband, Joseph, was Jesus' adoptive father.) The book of Luke tells how Jesus came through David's son Nathan (3:31), who was His biological ancestor. Jesus was a person of mixed ancestry, like you and me. We can conclude that Jesus's kingdom identifies with both Jews and Gentiles, including all races of people through His grace and mercy of salvation. Faith in Jesus transcends every culture and race and one to which all nations of people may come to the Savior.

Jesus, our Redeemer, had Gentile blood, yet is the Son of God, who lived a perfect life, thus qualified to meet the requirements of the blood sacrifice for my sins and your sins. Amen! Thank You Jesus for paying the debt we could not pay and the debt You did not owe!

Have you trusted in Jesus as your Savior, dear friend? It is by faith, not by heritage nor by works that we come to Him humbly.

For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast. (Ephesians 2:8-9)

For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.(Romans 6:23)

If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. If we say we have not sinned, we make Him a liar, and His word is not in us. (1John 1:9)

Jesus said unto her, "I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth in Me, though he were dead, yet shall he life: And whosoever liveth and believeth in Me shall never die. Believest thou this? (John 11:25-26)

What will you do with a man called Jesus?

LET IT GO

Thank You Jesus, for dying on the cross in my place as payment for my sins.

Thank You for enduring the cross, the beatings, the ridicules, and the temptations of sin.

Praise be to the Risen Savior!

Comfort, Restoration, Provisions

O. T. #1910  "Comfort, Restoration, Provisions"

Ezekiel 25-Part 2

LET IT GLOW

Psalm 23 gives us reassurance:

The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want. He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: He leadeth me beside the still waters. He restoreth my soul: He leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for His name's sake. Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; Thy rod and thy staff they comfort me. Thou prepares a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: Thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the LORD for ever.

Is God our Great Shepherd of us sheep? Jesus Christ lays down His life for His sheep. (John 10:11) Through His wounds we are healed. (1Peter 2:24) If we have gone astray, then we can return to Him. (1 Peter 2:25) It is because Jesus knows His sheep. that we are welcomed. (John 10:14)

David, the author of this psalm, had God meet his needs that were:

  • spiritual needs-He refreshes and restores;
  • directional needs-when we wander off the right path, He brings us back through His Word and Spirit;
  • emotional needs-no need to fear, for with His rod and staff, He beats off the enemies and pulls us to safety, as well as giving us grace and mercy as we go through the valleys;
  • physical needs-food and healing are provided to the point where God's provisions overflow;
  • Then goodness and mercy pursue us so we may eternally dwell in the house of the LORD forever. [Resource: The Tony Evans Bible Commentary]

Does He providing for your needs so you lack nothing? If He has saved us for eternity, then He will provide for us, maybe not all we want, but what He sees we need. My greatest comfort is that Jesus is with me sharing His love, mending fences of relationships, healing my broken heart time and time again.

LET IT GROW

There were  7 nations that fell under God's judgment, as Ezekiel prophesied, is found in chapters 25-32. (besides Israel and Judah) They had despised and mistreated Israel. They were bad, nomadic people descended from Lot and his younger daughter. (Gen. 19) In Deuteronomy 23:3, the Ammonites and Moabites hired Baalam to curse God's people after they left Egypt. That is some background about those people.

The first mentioned are the Ammonites:

  • They dwelt on the other side of the Jordan River, in the northeast of Jerusalem.
  • They gloated over the fall of Jerusalem and the destruction of the Temple.
  • They were happy when the land of Israel lay desolate and the people were taken into captivity. (verse3)
  • After the northern kingdom of Israel was conquered by Assyria, the Ammonites seized their land.(Jeremiah 49:1)
  • They grabbed whatever possessions they could after the Babylonians had victory in Judah. (verse 4)
  • Their own land would be invaded as God directed and they would perish. (verses 5, 7, 28-32)
  • Thou shalt know that I am the LORD. (verse 7)

Jeremiah 49:6 tells us that a remnant returned to their land, as the Lord restored their fortunes.

Later, they obstructed Nehemiah's work in restoring all in the Judean land.(Neh. 4:1)

Are we happy or judgmental when someone falls into sin or bad things happen to them because of their sins? Do we take advantage of a brother or sister that is knocked down? We should be careful in thinking someone deserves what they got after mistreating us. We are told to pray for our enemies. One day we might be in a similar situation.

LET IT GO

Thank You Jesus for being my Good Shepherd.

For restoring me when I fail You or leave Your will, I praise You.

You are with me when I fear, comfort me in my valleys, and bless me with my cup overflowing.

Thank You for goodness and mercy.

I know that I will dwell in Your house eternally.

Such love undeserved!

Why He Did What He Did

Ezekiel 25

LET IT GLOW

Some trust in chariots, and some in horses: but we will remember the name of the LORD our God. (Psalm 20:7)

We will rejoice in Thy salvation, and in the name of our God we will set up our banners: the LORD fulfill all thy petitions. (Ps. 20:5)

Now know I that the LORD saveth His anointed; He will hear him from His holy heaven with the saving strength of His right hand. (Ps. 20:6)

In what are we placing our trust? Is it God or things? In what are we rejoicing? Is it the salvation through Jesus Christ? From what are we needing rescued? Is Jesus holding us with His righteous right hand? Are we willing to release our prized possession into His care?

"This is a time in your life when you must learn to let go: of loved ones, of possessions, of control. In order to let go of something that is precious to you, you need to rest in My Presence, where you are complete." (Jesus Calling, by Sarah Young)

Sometimes we just need to be reminded of those things, don't we? At least I do.

LET IT GROW

Now we are entering a new section concerning the prophecies against 7 foreign nations, in chapters 25-32. It was God's judgment against the enemies of the Jews because they failed to acknowledge the One True God and fulfill the good purposes He intended for them. Those Gentile nations despised and mistreated God's people, Israel. Also, the judgment was due to their actions and attitudes towards Israel, as well as their self-deification (deifying) and ungodly pride.

I will bless those who bless you, I will curse anyone who treats you with contempt. (Genesis 12:3)

God is speaking about Israel, His beloved. So this is why God did what He did to those seven.

Those nations include the people:

  1. Ammonites
  2. Moabites
  3. Edomites
  4. Philistines
  5. Tyrians
  6. Sidon
  7. Egypt

We will be studying about each nation and why God did what He did to each.

LET IT GO

You have been so kind and good to me, my God.

I don't deserve it.

Thank You for Your grace and Mercy.

Keep me as the apple of Thine eye.

Bless all who continue to study with me.

Ezekiel 24-Part 2

LET IT GLOW

The heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament sheweth His handiwork. (Psalm 19:1)

The statues of the LORD are right, rejoicing the heart: the commandment of the LORD is pure, enlightening the eyes. More to be desired are they than gold, yea, than much fine gold: sweeter also than honey and the honeycomb. (Psalm 19: 8,10)

Let the words of my mouth, and the meditation of my heart, be acceptable in thy sight, O LORD, my strength, and my redeemer. (Ps. 19:14)

LET IT GROW

Ezekiel told the exiled Jews in Babylon of the coming destruction of their city, Jerusalem. A messenger that escaped would come a couple of years later to Ezekiel to report this happened. (33:21) The prophet was to remain silent until the new captives arrived, for judgment had come. Then he could speak of Judah. (3:26,27) That would be hard enough to swallow, the sad news, but a personal sorrow was coming to Ezekiel.

J. Vernon McGee had this to say about the rest of this chapter:

Apparently, the prophet had married a lovely, young Israelite girl, and they loved each other. But down there in captivity, she became sick and died. I imagine it was a heartbreak to Ezekiel, but again he must act a part.

With one blow I will take away your dearest treasure. Yet you must not show any sorrow at her death. do not weep; let there be no tears. (verse 16, NLT)

Forbear to cry, make no mourning for the dead, bind the tire of thine head upon thee, and put on thy shoes upon thy feet, and cover not thy lips, and eat not the bread of men. (verse 17)

What were the instructions from God to Ezekiel, which was a visual aide for the other captives?

  • As Ezekiel's wife died, he was to groan silently, but not wail at her grave.
  • He was not to uncover his head nor take off his sandals.
  • Ezekiel was told to not perform the usual rituals of mourning or accept any food brought to him by consoling friends. (verse 17)
  • He was to bind the tire (an embellishment; fancy headdress) upon his head. (Jews would cover themselves in dust and ashes to show their mourning state.

What an extremely difficult command from God for the prophet to obey wholeheartedly! He was to act like he was not mourning at all. Well, you know Ezekiel obeyed such an unusual instruction.

The people came to Ezekiel and asked what in the world it mean. His wife was dead and the prophet was not even mourning. What kind of man was he? What was he trying to tell them?

Ezekiel explained in verse 20:

  • The Lord God told me to give this message to the people of Israel.
  • God will defile His Temple, the source of your security and pride, the place of your heart delights in.
  • Your sons and daughters whom you left behind in Judea will be slaughtered by the sword.
  • Then you will do as Ezekiel has done.
  • You will not mourn or weep, but you will waste away because of your sins.
  • You will mourn privately for all the evil you have done.
  • Ezekiel is your example for you; you will do just as he has done.
  • And when the time comes, you will know that I am the Sovereign LORD. (NLT)

Lastly, God told Ezekiel that He takes away their stronghold-their joy and glory, their heat's desire, their dearest treasure, and their children. When the messenger comes to report about Jerusalem's fall, then the prophet would be able to speak. He would be a symbol to the people.

Jerusalem was God's beloved city and the Temple was His house. The Jews were to be His witness to the world, but Israel failed. There was no use in the weeping and howling to Him now. God took responsibility for all of this happening to His people. If the people had an argument with Ezekiel's messages, they were to take it to the Lord. However, God's ways are right and their ways were wrong.

The people got the message; the remnant had to repent of their sins and surrender to God, loving Him above all, including idols. He would use them to rebuild all in Israel, later on. Is God first place in our life? Or does He have to remove something dear to us in order for Him to be?D

LET IT GO

What or whom is our dearest treasure? Is it God?

Are we willing to serve God as completely as Ezekiel did?

Do we speak of God's message of redemption in Jesus Christ to unbelievers?

Are we faithfully worshiping and serving, loving and praising, thanking and surrendering to the will of God in our lives?

Ezekiel 24

LET IT GLOW

I enjoy reading the Psalms. I find encouragement there. How about you? I am glad that folks have put them to music for me to remember the promises God has made to His children.

Keep me as the apple of the eye, hide me under the show of Thy wings. (Psalm 17:8)

I will love Thee, O LORD, my strength. The LORD is my rock, and my fortress, and my deliverer; my God, my strength, in whom I will trust; my buckler, and the horn of my salvation, and my high tower. I will call upon the LORD, who is worthy to be praised: so shall I be saved from mine enemies. (Ps. 18:1-3)

As for God, His way is perfect: the Word of the LORD is tried: He is a buckler to all those that trust in Him. (Ps. 18:30)

The LORD liveth; and blessed be my rock; and let the God of my salvation be exalted. (Ps. 18:46)

On whom are you relying? Who is your rock, strength, fortress, high tower, and salvation? I hope we can all say that God is ours.

LET IT GROW

One last parable is given to Ezekiel to tell to those in exile with him in Babylon. He was told to write down a specific and important day when he received the Word from God. (verse 1) It is recorded in 2 Kings 25:1, when the king of Babylon began the final siege upon Jerusalem (January 15, 588 B.C.). So the parable was extremely timely. (King Zedekiah reigned in Jerusalem at the time it occurred.)Although, the prophet was some 300 miles away from the city.

What was the message of the pot with scum (rust), using the New Living Translation?

  • Put a pot on the fire, and pour in some water. (verse 3)
  • Fill it with choice pieces of meat-rump, shoulder, and all the most tender cuts. (verse 4)
  • Fuse only the best sheep from the flock, and heap fuel on the fire beneath the pot.
  • Bring the pot to a boil, and cook the bones along with the meat. (verse 5)
  • Take the meat out in random order, for no piece is better than another. (verse 6c)
  • Heap on the wood. Let the fire roar to make the pot boil. (verse 10)
  • Cook the meat with many spices, and afterward burn the bones. (verse 10)
  • Now set the empty pot on the coals. Heat it red hot. Burn away the filth and corruption. (verse 11)

What was the meaning of this parable? Judah's people had frustrated God's every effort to purify them of their uncleanness, so He had no recourse but to bring judgment. (verses 12-14) It was an 18 month siege in which Jews died from famine. When this happened that Jerusalem and its people, along with the Temple were destroyed, then they would know that the LORD is God.

Then word came to the exiles that this happened. There were 71 priests and leaders, along with Ezra that were taken exile to Babylon, along with the treasures in the Temple. Sadly, the other people were killed. Jerusalem was a smoking ruin.

Is God trying to purify us through difficulties and troubles? When we face tough times, all Him to burn the sin from our life. Allow problems to be opportunities for our faith to grow. May we take time to reexamine our lives so that we will do what really counts.

A person who escaped the destruction of Jerusalem came to Ezekiel in Babylon and report the story. Ezekiel was to be silent until the captives arrived where he was. Then he could speak of Judah (3:26-27) this took about 2 years.(33:21) (There was no need to preach judgment for it had come.) Ezekiel did speak to other nations, beginning with chapter 25.

LET IT GO

Purify our heart of its sins, O Lord.

Give strength to the hurting.

May Your peace flow through us as we trust in You, Jesus.

May Your presence give us songs in our hearts as we journey to heaven.

Ezekiel 23

LET IT GLOW

Before we get into a gruesome chapter, shall we look into the Psalms for encouragement?

But Thou, O LORD, art a shield for me; my glory, and the lifter up of mine head. (Ps. 3:3)

Offer the sacrifices of righteousness, and put your trust in the LORD. (Ps. 4:5)

My voice shalt Thou hear in the morning, O LORD; in the morning will I direct my prayer unto Thee, and will look up. (Ps. 5:3)

But let all those that put their trust in Thee rejoice; let them ever shout for joy, because Thou defendest them: let them also that love Thy name be joyful in Thee. (Ps. 5:12)

O LORD our Lord, how excellent is Thy name in all the earth! Who hast set Thy glory above the heavens. (Ps. 8:1)

Are you in need for the Lord to lift up your head today? He is excellent, and we can trust our Majestic God. We can rejoice because He hears our prayers and defends us.

LET IT GROW

God gave Ezekiel a parable of two sisters as He reviewed the abominations of Jerusalem and Judah, and Israel. Israel and Judah separated, becoming the northern kingdom (Israel) and the southern kingdom (Judah).

1. The first sister to succumb to idol worship was Ohoiah, which represented Samaria, the capital of the northern kingdom. She fell in 722 B.C. to the Assyrians, her lover.

2. Next was the sister Oholibah, which represented Jerusalem in the southern kingdom of Judah. Their spiritual adultery was against the Lord God with their false god worship. We can read of their terrible and sinful acts.

God used Babylon to bring His judgment. The Old Testament penalty for adultery was stoning, so their enemies used swords to kill the sinners left in Judah and their children, as well as burned their houses and Temple. The people of Judah were exiled into Babylon and remained there for 70 years. This was the method God used to cleanse the land and His remnant to know He is God. (verse 49)

LET IT GO

May we love You, Majestic God, with all of our heart, soul, mind, and strength.

Stand in the Gap

O. T. 1905 "Stand in the Gap"

March 19, 2021

Ezekiel 22-Part 4

And I sought for a man among them, that should make up the hedge, and stand in the gap before Me for the land, that I should not destroy it: but I found none. (verse 30)

LET IT GLOW

History is full of individuals who made a difference. There have been musicians, scientists, inventors, explorers, soldiers, and presidents, as well as ordinary individuals. Included should be preachers who stood in the gap, alone, and made a difference. So many in the Bible that answered God's call and had His hand on their lives who thought, said, and did what was right, regardless of the cost. Lives were changed and history made as a result of them.

Looking deeper into our key verse, there are some key words to look at first:                                  hedge, which is a fence, wall, an enclosure;                                                                                      stand, means to arise, repair, remain (stand by, firm, still, up);                                                           gap, refers to a break, breach, breaking forth.

We know the problems Judah had were idolatry and immorality. There was a grievous breach made in the moral state of those people, and God saw it. Therefore, He sought a man that would stand in the gap, faithfully exhort, reprove and counsel with all long-suffering and doctrine. (Adam Clarke)

God is looking for a man among His people, a prophet who should get his message directly from God, and the priests who led in worship of God. But they didn't. They told Judah to not listen to Ezekiel, not worry about God's judgment, nor be afraid of the Babylonian army.

God was seeking for one to make a hedge, wall, that had been broken down by the sins of the people; one who would restrain them from sinning, who would reform them, and set them a good example. It would be a good man, that would endeavor by his influence to stop the breaking in of sin, and consequences of it. He would stand in the gap so God would not destroy Judah and Jerusalem. One that would act as an intercessor, praying for them so God wouldn't destroy them. One like Abraham did for Sodom, Moses did for Israel, and Aaron between living and dead to stay the plague. (John Gill)

God was looking for someone to make up a wall of righteousness and intercession between Him and the people; that would stand in the gap, arise and remain firm, and repair the breach and break that was between God's people and His judgment; this was so He would not destroy the land, country, nations.

Life Application Study Bible puts it this way:

The wall represented a wall of spiritual protection surrounding God's people. But this wall was in serious disrepair because there was no one who could lead the people back to God. The feeble attempts to repair the gap-through religious rituals or messages based on opinion rather than God's will- were as worthless as whitewash, which only covered up the real problems. What the people needed was total reconstruction. When we give the appearance of loving God without living His way, we are covering up sins. don't use religion as a whitewash; repair your life by applying the principles of God's Word. Then you can join with others to "stand in the gap" and make a difference for God in the world.

Are we living with Jesus in our soul? Are we willing to stand in the gap for our family, friends, community, and nation so God does not pour His wrath upon us?

LET IT GROW

Believers have God's hedge of protection, but when sin makes a gap in it, and evil creeps in, then destruction is coming.

The bad news is that God found none. Not one person could be found to stand in the gap on God's behalf and stop His hand of judgment from falling on everyone. God was looking for a person, not Jeremiah, Isaiah, nor Ezekiel, but the others.

Tony Evans says, "This is the principle of representation that allows God to hold back His judgment if He has sufficient intermediaries who righteousness can be credited to the benefit of the unrighteous. When such representatives are absent and the people do not repent, then judgment falls." (See Gen. 18:22-33 and 1 Corinthians 7:13-14)

Only God's Messiah, God Himself, will have the character and credentials sufficient to do what no mortal man can do, intercede for Israel. (MacArthur)

Christ Jesus is He who died, yeas, rather who was raised, who is at the right hand of God, who also intercedes for us. (Romans 8:4b)

Hence, also, He is able to save forever those who draw near to God through Him, since He always lives to make intercession for them. (Hebrews 7:25)

That verse is speaking of Jesus Christ, the Messiah, Son of the Living God, Risen Savior. See Romans 8:26-36. The Spirit intercedes for the saints according to the will of God.

May we be the ones to stand in the gap so repentance of sin, prayer, and reformation take place. It is God's delight and desire to show mercy. Are we willing to be one? Our nation needs us.

LET IT GO

Let go of time each day and stand in the gap for those we love, so God will show mercy upon them.

Love Never Fails

Ezekiel 22-Part 3

LET IT GLOW

Life is not without trials and troubles. We have come to realize that is just life. Right? (Especially if we have lived over half a century!) When we come through one, or survive one, doesn't it opens our eyes to see how much our God loves us?  How precious particular verses are to us. Here are some:

I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me. (Philippians 4:13)

Call upon Me in the day of trouble; I will deliver you and you shall glorify Me. (Psalm 50:15)

And my God shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus. (Philippians 4:19)

And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free. (John 8:32) Jesus is the way, the Truth, and the life.

Look what Paul said in Galatians 2:20 (NIV), I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me.

So dear one, know that when Christ lives in us, He enables us to live by faith in Him because He loved (and still loves us) so much that He gave His very life for us so we can live eternally with Him in glory.

Amen and amen! Thank You Jesus! Your love never fails, it never gives up, and never runs out on me.

LET IT GROW

In this chapter, we have read the why Jerusalem was judged by God and sent into captivity for 70 years. Then we found out how that judgment came. Now, we will discover who would be affected by it. (verses 23-31)

  • Prophets-They devoured the souls of the people by taking their treasure and precious things, resulting in many widows. (verse 25) Also, they told lies, saying everything was fine, announcing false visions and making lying predictions. (verse 28)
  • Priests-They violated God's law and profaned His holy things; they don't distinguish between holy and unholy, clean and unclean; they disregard the Sabbath days so God is dishonored. (verse 26)
  • Princes-They are like wolves who tear apart their victims; they destroy people's lives for money. (verse 27)
  • People-They oppressed the poor, robbed the needy, and deprived foreigners of justice. (verse 29)

No wonder Judah's social structure was in utterly decay. God had enough. Are there such people we know doing those things, some in the name of religion? Is our nation in decay? What a time for us believers to stand for God's Word and for Him. We must remain faithful.

LET IT GO

I see You in everything, all day;

And every beat of my heart keeps reminding me.

I see You in everything, all day;

No matter where I go, Your love is finding me.

Everyday.

Skim the Scum

Ezekiel 22-Part 2

LET IT GLOW

It has been a rough two days. I was apprehensive about getting the Covid vaccine, and wished I had not. (I have an autoimmune disease, asthma, and a heart problem.) Two of my specialists highly suggested I get it. I surely did not expect the reactions that my body had. It attacked my heart, making my blood pressure low and high. So I asked Jesus to reach down with His righteous right hand and help me. He did just that. Thanks for your prayers.

Abundant life is not necessarily health and wealth; it is living in continual dependence on Jesus. Instead of trying to fit this day into a preconceived mold, relax and be on the lookout for what I am doing. You have Jesus on your side, so what are you worried about? He can equip you to do absolutely anything, as long as it is His will. (Sarah Young)

Sometimes we just have to rest and relax in Jesus. I am finally feeling better after a good nap. Hebrews 13:6 says, So that we confidently say, "The Lord is my helper, I will not be afraid. What shall man do to me?"

Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today, yes and forever. (verse 8)

He has rescued me many times from the close death. And He did it again. To God be the glory forever.

LET IT GROW

Last time, we looked at why Jerusalem was going to experience God's judgment. Today, we will find out how Jerusalem's judgment would come. (verses 17-22) The Babylonians would burn them in the fire of God's fury. (verse 21)

As precious metals were put into the fire to remove the impurities (dross), so Israel/Judah would be cleansed from their idolatry, immorality, and wickedness.

Instead of being the glory, strength, and example among the nations, Jerusalem is now likened unto a refiner's blast furnace. As the furnace is heated, the dross will rise to the top to be cast off. If any silver and gold is there, it will be purged from its filthiness. (Liberty Bible Commentary)

Scum is scraped away after metal is refined. Some of the people were left to melt, while some were scattered among the nations, and some would be gathered back to Jerusalem.(verses 19-20)

Then His sinful people would know that He is the LORD as His wrath was poured out on them. (verse 22)

Isn't it better for God to confirm His sovereignty in our lives by blessing our obedience than by punishing our disobedience?

LET IT GO

Skim the scum of sin from our hearts and lives, Jesus.

You alone are worthy of worship and praise.

Please forgive us of our idolatry, immorality, and wickedness.

Worries

O. T. #1902 "Worries"

March 16, 2021

Ezekiel 22

LET IT GLOW

It is looking like spring here. Birds have returned to the yard, grass is growing green, daffodils have bloomed. This reminds me of Luke 12:24, where we are told that the ravens do not plant or harvest or store food in barns, for God feeds them. And you are far more valuable to Him than any birds!

The lilies don't work or make their clothing. And if God cares so wonderfully for flowers that are here today and thrown into the fire tomorrow, He will certainly care for you. Why do you have so little faith? (verse 28)

He goes on to tell us to not be concerned about what to eat and drink. Your father already knows your needs. (verse 30)

Life is far more than food, and your body more than clothing. (verse 23) Jesus is speaking about our needs being met, for our Heavenly Father know that we have need of these things. Then He gives us the key verse, found in 31: But rather, seek ye the kingdom of God; and all these things shall be added unto you.

Folks, why do we worry about these things? Is it because we are not in control?

The Tony Evans Bible Commentary says it this way:

It's one thing for unbelievers to worry, but believers who trust in a heavenly Father should not be filled with anxiety. Instead, Christ's disciples have access to the spiritual realm when they prioritize the kingdom of God, with its promises and provisions, because the kingdom is the divine rule.

Sometimes we just need to be reminded of this.

LET IT GROW

In this chapter, God explains why Jerusalem's judgment would come (verses 2-16), how it would come (verses 17-22), and who would be affected by it (verses 23-31)

First, why was Jerusalem's judgment coming upon them? It was the decay of the social structure involving the prophet, priest, prince, and people. Judgment's purpose was to purge out filthiness and dross as God's wrath fell against sin, and then to bring His people back to Himself. It was because of their many sins:

  1. Murder. Violence in Jerusalem was a sin against their fellow man and the stranger. (verses 6,9,12, 13, 27)
  2. Idolatry. They polluted themselves and turned God against them since He is a just and jealous God. Their mind and conscience were defiled so nothing was pure to them. Others were guilty of eating on the mountains or high places where idols were honored, so they had communion with idolaters. (verses 3, 9)
  3. Disobedience to parents. They mocked, cursed, and despised to obey their parents. (verse 7)
  4. Oppression and extortion. Foreigners were forced to pay for protection; orphans and widows were wronged and oppressed. There were hired murders, loan racketeers, and extortioners everywhere. (verses 7,12)
  5. Profaned the Sabbath and other holy things. They neglected the holy oracles and ordinances, as well as the rites which God gave them to observe, despising them. They were fond of the customs of heathens. Their Sabbath-breaking brought contempt of religion and worship of God. (verse 8)
  6. Uncleanness and all manner of  seventh commandment sins. Their forms of depravity include sexual sins with family and neighbors' women. (verses 9-11)
  7. Unmindfulness of God. They forgot God, their dependence upon Him and descent from Him as they commit bribery and brutal extortion. (verse 12)

Please forgive Americans of their same sins, Holy God.

We allow the heathen practices of the Easter bunny, Halloween practices, and Santa Clause in churches.

We treat each Lord's Day, Sunday, as any other day of the week, neglecting Your worship and rest.

Oppression and extortion practices go on everyday.

Lord Jesus, we are sinners in need of You, Savior and Redeemer.

Please be merciful and gracious to us.

Protect and provide for Your children of faith.

At The Crossroads in Life?

O. T. #1901  "At The Crossroads in Life?"

March 15, 2021

Ezekiel 21-Part 4

LET IT GLOW

When we need strength to carry on another day, courage to carry on, healing for our sin-sick soul, we come to the table of Jesus. There we receive what our broken heart needs. When we feast upon His Word, our hungry soul gets filled with the love, mercy, hope that Jesus gives to His brothers and sisters, the child of God. so I looking to the Psalms, which were mostly written by David, a man after God's own heart. Will you join me?

But his delight is in the law of the LORD; and in His law doth he meditate day and night. (Ps. 1:2)

Serve the LORD with fear, and rejoice with trembling. (Ps. 1:11)

Blessed are all they that put their trust in Him. (Ps. 1:12e)

But Thou, O LORD, art a shield for me; my glory, and the lifter up of mine head. (Ps. 2:3)

I will not be afraid of ten thousands of people, that have set themselves against me round about. (Ps. 2:6)

Salvation belongeth unto the LORD: thy blessing is upon Thy people. (Ps. 2:8)

I am so glad that you join me in studying God's Word. It is such an encouragement to me. To see what countries you are in keeps me going. Thank you.

Here are some questions for us to ponder. In what is our delight? Are we serving the Lord Jesus with reverence to Him? Do we rejoice in what He does and provides for us? Will we put our trust in Jesus today? Do you need someone to life up your head, Jesus will. Is He our shield and glory?

don't be afraid, for Jesus has got this, my friend. He knows our needs before we ask Him. Do you have God's salvation through His Son, Jesus Christ? It is only found in Him. He is waiting to bless you today.

LET IT GROW

When you are at the crossroads in life, where do you turn for answers? King Saul and Neb both turn to the evil world for answers. However, David turned to the Lord his God.

Last time, we read where Ezekiel told Judah that God was going to remove the diadem and crown, their king Zedekiah, from his throne. There would not be a king in Israel/Judah until Jesus returns to earth to reign 1,000 years as the King and High Priest.

In the meantime, what was going to happen?

  • The king of Babylon came to  crossroads, trying to figure out where to go next in his conquering. (verse 19)
  • Neb turned to divination, soothsaying and witchcraft for answers. He used the shaking of arrows, like rolling dice, consulted idols, and even looked to the live of a sacrifice animal to an idol for the direction to go. (verse 21) This was the wrong thing to do.
  • Since God was in charge, Neb went to Jerusalem first. (verse 26)
  • Then, God was sending Nebuchadnezzar of Babylon with his sword upon Ammon. There was no promise of restoration for the Ammonites. ((verse 28)
  • This occurred because their prophets gave false visions and fortune-tellers told lies. Their final day of reckoning had come. (verse 29)
  • God was passing judgment upon them. (verse 30) They had been the first nation to mistreat Israel when they went to conquer the Promised Land.
  • They would be utterly wiped out, and their memory lost to history. (verse 32)
  • Israel and Ammon were always fighting each other. Judah was told to not join the Ammonites as an ally, but they did. (Jeremiah 27:3)
  • Neb went to destroy Jerusalem first, then the land of the Ammonites.

We can find answers to our questions in God's Word, prayer, and from other believers.

LET IT GO

Keep walking by faith, not by sight.

Depend on God.

Keep trusting, waiting, hoping in Jesus.

Make sure we stay on the straight and narrow path of godliness, with obedience.

Allow Jesus to fill us with His love, joy, and peace.

Our High Priest-King is Coming

O. T. #1900 "Our High Priest-King is Coming"

March 12, 2021

Ezekiel 21

LET IT GLOW

In Hebrews 13, there are several encouraging words.

For God has said, "I will never fail you. I will never abandon you." (verse 6, NLT)

The LORD is my helper, and I will not fear what man shall do unto me. (verse 6)

Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and today, and forever. (verse 8)

By Him therefore let us offer the sacrifice of praise to God continually, that is, the fruit of our lips giving thanks to His name. (verse 15)

Are we fearing what mere people can do to us? Remember, Jesus is our helper. Be sure that our strength comes from God's grace. Are we offering through Jesus a continual sacrifice of praise to God? Do we proclaim our allegiance to His name? Today, will we do good and share with those in need?

But to do good and to communicate forget not: for with such sacrifices God is well pleased. (verse 16)

LET IT GROW

In verse 26, God says to remove the diadem [a tiara; official turban (of a king or high priest)], and take off the crown. This was the headgear of the High Priest and king. Zedekiah was Judah's last king, and was brought low. Now God says that there will be no more high priest and king in Israel, of David's line unto the Lord Jesus Christ comes back to reign in the millennial time. He will be that Priest-King. (And so it is.) God will hand over the diadem and crown to Jesus then. He has the right to wear them. Right now, Jesus sits at the right hand of God, waiting until His enemies are made His footstool when He comes to this earth to rule. He is the One Person of whom prophets had spoken. His "right" is that perfect combination of priestly and royal offices. (Hebrews 5-7)

Are we ready for our King to return to earth today? If He is your Savior and High Priest, then you are? If not, then let me encourage you to surrender to Jesus, asking His forgiveness of your sins, and become your Savior.

LET IT GO

Thank You Jesus for being our High Priest, interceding for us sinners to Holy God.

Thank You that You discern which petition is the right one to present.

Be King of our hearts and lives today.

May we always praise You and give You the glory, Jesus.

May we be ready for Your return to reign on earth.

Struggling, Surviving, and Still

O. T. #1899  "Struggling, Surviving, and Still"

March 11, 2021

Ezekiel 21-Part 2

LET IT GLOW

The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still. (Exodus 14:14)

In Sarah Young's devotional this morning, which is unique in that she writes as if Jesus is speaking to you and me, I read this:

I know how weary you are, My child. You have been struggling just to keep your head above water, and your strength is running low. Now is the time for your to stop striving and let Me fight for you. I know this is not easy for you to do. You feel as if you must keep struggling in order to survive, but I am calling you to rest in Me. I am working on your behalf; so be still, and know that I am God.

Perhaps you needed to hear that, too. Dear one, there comes a time that we just lay our burdens at the fee of Jesus and let Him handle them, then rest in His peace. We have to come to that point where we stop striving and struggling with the "it" in our life. Then watch Jesus work it out for us, work on our behalf, or work in us.

LET IT GROW

In verses 6-7, we read what God told Ezekiel to do-sigh, which means groan; mourn. The New Living Translation says it like this, Groan before them with bitter anguish and a broken heart.

Ezekiel was told to preach this message with his face toward Jerusalem and against the sanctuaries. Why would God tell the prophet to sigh? It was so they would hear him, then ask Ezekiel why he was doing that. However, they didn't want to get Ezekiel's message since they did not like to be told that things were wrong.

Here is Ezekiel's answer:

  • I groan because of the tidings (something heard; announcement; news), such terrifying news God gave. (Fire by the Babylonian army to Jerusalem and Judah.)
  • Because it comes;
  • When it comes true, every heart, even the boldest heart, will melt with fear. Melt means to faint (with fatigue, fear, or grief); discouraged.
  • And all hands shall be feeble (weaken), so all strength will disappear.
  • And every spirit shall faint (to be weak).
  • Strong knees will become weak as water.

"It cometh, and shall be brought to pass," saith the Lord God.

God's judgment is designed to purify; destruction is often a necessary part of that process.

LET IT GO

Jesus, some of us are struggling, trying to survive.

Help us to be still and know Your are God and You will fight for us.

We watch to see You working.

To You be the glory, honor, and praise, Jesus!

When We Need to Be Held Up

O. T. #1898  "When We Need to Be Held Up"

March 10, 2021

Ezekiel 21

LET IT GLOW

Do you feel cast down today? Even when we falter on this journey through life or fall into sin, God will never let go of our hand. I need this assurance today.

The steps of a good man are ordered by the LORD: and He delighteth in his way. Though he fall, he shall not be utterly cast down: for the LORD upholdeth him with His hand. (Ps. 37:23-24)

In the Hebrew language, upholdeth refers to take hold of; bear up; establish.

Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of My righteousness. (Isaiah 41:10)

The word uphold means to sustain, keep fast, to help maintain.

Jesus will establish us so we can stand firm again, take hold of us, and bear us up when we feel discouraged and down. It is Jesus' hand that holds onto us, not the other way around. He is ready to strengthen us, help us, and sustain us. So when we have fear and are dismayed (bewildered, turn, look away), He is still God and is still with us. When someone says some harsh things about me to me, then I look down, but God tells me not too. Anyone know what I'm talking about?

LET IT GROW

In this chapter, there are three messages about the judgments that would come upon Jerusalem, dealing with a sword:

  1. The sword of the Lord (verses 1-7)
  2. The sharpened sword (verses 8-17)
  3. The sword of Nebuchadnezzar (verses 18-22)

One commentary said that God is the swordsman and Babylon and its king is His sword.

God was going to draw His sword out of His sheath to destroy the righteous and wicked people of Jerusalem. How does He describe this sword?

  • sharpened,
  • polished,
  • ready for action,
  • not returned in the sheath until God's task is accomplished.

How will the people react when it comes true (Babylon attacks Jerusalem)? Verse 7 tells us the boldest heart will melt with fear, hands will be feeble as strength disappears, their spirit will faint, strong knees will be weak as water. It is coming on its way.

Folks, we have a choice when opposition and fear comes to us believers. We can listen to God and be strengthened or become weak, faint hearted.

LET IT GO

Please strengthen Your children today, Heavenly Father.

You know each one's struggles and opposition.

Bear us up and maintain us in faith by Your righteous right hand.

Grow us stronger in Your love, faith, and our obedience.

Don't let us fall into despair, for You are in charge, not evil.

Are You Fired Up For Jesus?

O. T. #1897 "Are You Fired Up For Jesus?"

March 9, 2021

Ezekiel 20-Part 4

LET IT GLOW

Exekiel was exasperated and discouraged. No one wanted to listen to what he had to say. No matter how important our work or how significant our ministry, we have moments of discouragement. What has been discouraging you? Have you felt like giving up? Instead, continue doing what God has told you to do. He promises to reward the faithful (Mark 13:13). God's cure for discouragement may be another assignment. In serving others, we may find the renewal we need.(Life Application Study Bible)

Life simply is full of curves. Sometimes the curves threaten to overwhelm me in their sharpness. The greatest seat belt that helps to ensure my survival is that profound and simple truth: Jesus loves me. (by Marilyn Meberg, The Joyful Journey)

Each morning, slam the door on despair. If you don't, it will slip in and rob you. And you'll soon find a peace missing. (Day by Day with Charles Swindoll)

The One who goes ahead of you, opening up the way, is the same One who stays close and never lets go of your hand. I love you for who you are, not for what you do. (Sarah Young writes as Jesus is speaking, in her devotional, Jesus Calling)

Here is a verse that came to me twice this past weekend, and I desperately needed it. Perhaps you can use it, too.

Be strong and of good courage, fear not, nor be afraid of them: for the LORD thy God, He it is that doth go with thee; He will not fail thee, nor forsake thee. (Deuteronomy 31:6)

LET IT GROW

A fire is hot, burns, flames, and destroys. It also cleanses impurities.

In verses 45-49, we read of the fire of judgment that would release Judah. The Babylonians would come with a destructive fire in Judah and Jerusalem. Their forests were destroyed. I think it was because the Jews worshiped idols placed under trees. The land that once flowed with milk and honey does not have enough water there. However, God is not through with these people or with that land. The wicked people were destroyed and a remnant was saved and scattered. Hebrews 12:29 tells us that our God is a consuming fire.

So I looked up in Webster's Dictionary, fire has several meanings, of which can apply to us: to give life or spirit to, inspire; to fill with passion or enthusiasm-often used with "up"; to cause to start operating; to be filled with excitement or enthusiasm.

Are we fired up for Jesus? Does His love and faithfulness toward us inspire us? Are we allowing Jesus to fill us with passion or enthusiasm or excitement?

Fill us with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience. (Colossians 3:12)

LET IT GO

May we not miss out on all Jesus has for us.

Fire us up, Jesus, so we share what good things You do for us and in us.

Keep us on fire for You, Jesus, and passionate about the kingdom work You have called us to do.

Who is Your Lord?

O. T. #1896  "Who is Your Lord?"

Ezekiel 20-Part 2

LET IT GLOW and GROW

There is a phrase repeated in this chapter. God did some things in Israel's history that God did so that ye may know that I am the LORD your God. What did He do?

  • Verse 5-God made Himself known when the Hebrews were slaves in Egypt as He performed those 10 plagues upon Egypt. Each plague showed that a particular god of Egypt had no power like the Lord. He was and still is superior, like no other.
  • Verse 7-God told Israel to get rid of their vile images with which they were so obsessed. They were told to not defile themselves with the idols of Egypt. While Moses was up on Mt. Sinai with God, the people made a golden calf, so that was why God gave that direction.
  • Verse 20-When Israel followed God, they kept His decrees, regulations, and kept His Sabbath day holy, then they pleased God.
  • Verse 26-God allowed the people to rebel against His instructions, go their own way, so He might devastate and remind them who He was.
  • Verse 38-God was going to bring Israel out of their rebellion and the countries where they were in exile. He would purge them.
  • Verse 42-One day God's people would return to Jerusalem and worship the One True Living God there. They would bring offerings, gifts, and sacrifices that are pleasing to God.
  • Verse 44-They will know He is the Lord when God honors His name and treats Israel mercifully in spite of their wickedness.

Do you know God is the Lord? Is He your Lord?

LET IT GO and let God be Lord.

Lift a Hand

O. T. #1895  "Lift a Hand"

March 5, 2021

Ezekiel 20-Part 2

Therefore, as God's chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. (Colossians 3:12)

LET IT GLOW

Wow! I just completely reading this long chapter. God instructs Ezekiel to review Israel's past history and prophesy their future. there are some good things and some not so good things discussed here. Let's begin with the good things I noticed.

We see the love that God had for Israel, His chosen people and nation in their past, present, and future.

  1. God revealed to Israel what pleased Him. (verse 40) It included: serving God, giving Him all their offerings, choice gifts, and sacrifices.
  2. God made Himself known to Judah/Israel. (verse 9)
  3. He provided a way for them to live, which was obedience of God's statutes and judgments, and keeping the Sabbaths. (verses 11, 18-20)
  4. He sanctified Israel. (verse 12) When they observed the Sabbath, that showed Israel's dependence upon  to supply their need as they did not work on the seventh day.

God reveals Himself today through nature, Christians, and His Word. We know what pleases our God when we read His Word to us and listen to it taught and preached. Jesus is the only way to eternal life in heaven. It is our faith that pleases God.

But without faith it is impossible to please Him; for He that cometh to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of them that diligently seek Him. (Hebrews 11:6)

Friend, have you trusted in Jesus as your Savior? Believe in Jesus as the Son of God and Savior of your soul, confess of your sins, asking Him to forgive you, and He will.

LET IT GROW

When words or phrases are repeated, I take notice. What is God saying to us?

1. God lifted up His hand. We find that in verses 5,6,15,23, and 28. To whom or where did God lift up His hand?

  • When He chose Israel, the seed of the house of Jacob; (verse 5)
  • When He brought them out of Egypt; (verse 6)
  • When Israel was in the wilderness, after they had no faith to trust God to give them victory over the giants in the Promised Land; (verse 15)
  • When Israel was in the wilderness, after the Babylonian army scattered them. (verse 23)
  • When Israel worshiped idols on mountains, offered sacrifices burning their children to Molech, the pagan god. (verse 28)

When God lifted up His hand, good or bad things happened. He often conquered Israel's enemies with just His hand lifted up and His word. The good thing for us is that Jesus sits at the right hand of God, interceding for us.

LET IT GO

May we please You, God, with our life, service, offerings, and gifts.

Grow our faith stronger and more abundantly in You.

Thank You Jesus that Your hand of mercy is upon us today.

May we lift up our hands in praise of Jesus.

May we lift a hand to help others.

Grace and Goodness of God

O. T. #1875  "Grace and Goodness of God"

March 4, 2021

Ezekiel 20

LET IT GLOW

It was by the grace of God that He chose Israel to be His beloved people. It was not because they were worthy of such goodness, but He loved them. Israel was chosen to be a peculiar people unto Himself. God made Himself known to them, gave them a Promise Land, and established covenants with them showing His commitment to provide and protect Israel. God remained faithful to them down throughout the centuries of time. All they had to do was keep God's commands, statutes, feasts, love and worship God only, and keep their covenant to Him.

It is by the grace of God that we are saved and experience His goodness and grace daily.

Yet, Israel rebelled against the Lord in not observing His ordinances, statutes, Sabbaths, and by continuing in idolatry.

The good news is that after 70 years of God's judgment of His people and His land, He regathered Israel, not because they were worthy, but because of His grace. At that time they repented of their sins, were saved, and entered into the promised blessings in the land. We read about this in the books of Ezra and Nehemiah.

Although Israel does not have a king on the throne that is of the lineage of David, there will one day be one. There will be when Jesus Christ returns to earth to reign as King during His millennial reign, for He is of the house and lineage of David.

[Resource: Liberty Bible Commentary, The Prophets, Ezekiel, by J.Vernon McGee]

Now that is good news among the doom and gloom of this book. We know that right down to the very day that Neb besieged Jerusalem, God was willing to spare them. His mercy was extended to Israel and Judah. All they had to do was repent of their sins, yet they would not. so many died because of their rebellion.

LET IT GROW

We read previously in chapter 14 that the elders of Israel/Judah came to Ezekiel to enquire of the LORD and sat before the prophet. This chapter begins the same way.

Enquire means to seek or ask; question; search; inquire.

How did God respond to this group of men? Are ye come to enquire of Me? As I live, saith the Lord God, I will not be enquired of by you. (verse 1)

Since God can see into the hearts of people and read their minds, He knew why those elders came to Ezekiel. It was to complain and criticize God; to say how He was unfair to judge them and to destroy Jerusalem. Even though they could have begun to take seriously the prophetic warnings, judgment fell.

Oh, if only those elders had been willing to follow God and His instructions. Their inquiring took place about 5 years before Jerusalem was destroyed and the Temple was destroyed by the Babylonian army. If only their heart had fully been devoted to God. But they wanted good news without having a willingness to follow God.

Are we willing to follow God's instructions to us, to obey His Word, and to do as the Holy spirit directs us? No matter the cost, are we willing to follow Jesus? Will we speak out and up against the sins and rebellion of people and nation, as well as against the evil lawmakers of our nation?

God is giving us a chance to repent of our sins, materialism, homosexuality, killing of unborn babies, idolatry and not being faith to Him and His Word. What is our response? Will we ask for mercy, agreeing with God that we are guilty of those sins? Or will we reject His call?

LET IT GO

Let the King of my heart be the mountain where I run, the fountain I drink from; Oh, He is my song.

Let the King of my heart be the shadow where I hide, the ransom for my life; Oh, He is my song.

'Cause You are good. (Song by Steffany Gretzinger & Bethel)

Is Jesus the King of your heart?

Ezekiel 19-Part 2

LET IT GLOW

In the last declining years, Judah was like a lion with two young lions. We found out those two were the two kings Jehoahaz (died in Egypt) and Jehoiachin (died in Babylon).

The second likening of Judah is to a very fruitful vine. The last king in Judah was Zedekiah.

What happened to those vines?

  • Neb left him on the throne in Jerusalem, like an intact vineyard, still planted in the holy land to flourish if he would keep his covenant with Neb of Babylon.
  • Zedikiah broke his word, and the Babylonian army uprooted Jerusalem in a fury as a fire consumed the holy city. (verse 10-11)
  • The people were deported to a dry and thirst land (verse 13)
  • There was no longer a strong branch, a scepter for ruling. (verse 14)

Isaiah predicted that there would be none of the house of David to have the right to rule in Jerusalem. (Isaiah 3:6,7) this happened 150 years later. After Zedekiah broke his word with Neb, he was blinded during his eleventh year of reign and taken as prisoner to Babylon. He had seen his two sons killed before being made blind.

LET IT GROW

The house of David ended in shame and, for nearly 2,600 years since, Israel has had no king of David's line. When the Messiah came, they rejected Him and preferred Caesar. The Messiah, Jesus Christ, still became their Savior, though some do not recognize Him as such, and will return to be their King.

The branch and scepter will be restored in Jesus Christ when He comes to rule on His millennial throne. He is the Son of David (Matthew 1:1), the King of Israel (John 1:49), and the Lion from the tribe of Judah, the Root of David. (Rev. 5:5). (Tony Evans)

And one of the elders saith unto me, Weep not; behold, the Lion of the tribe of Judah, the Root of David, hath prevailed to open the book, and to loose the seven seals thereof. (Rev. 5:5)

Jesus is that Lion of the tribe of Judah. Is He your King, Lion, Root of your faith?

LET IT GO

Thank You Father for having our history, future, and destination sealed.

Worthy is the Lamb of praise and glory!

Rescue From the Den of Lions

Ezekiel 19

LET IT GLOW

Can you believe it is already the third month of this year? It seems that time is marching on, but quickly. Of course, they say that happens when one gets older.

I came across some encouraging scriptures lately. We can all use them, especially during these uncertain times.

I will never desert you, nor will I ever forsake you.  (Hebrews 13:5)

The Lord will rescue me from every evil attack and will bring me safely to His heavenly kingdom. (2 Timothy 4:18a, NIV)

God is able to make all grace abound to you, so that always having all sufficiency in everything, you may have an abundance for every good deed. (2 Corinthians 9:8)

Sustain me as You promised, and I will live; do not let me be ashamed of my hope. sustain me so that I can be safe and always be concerned about Your statutes. (Psalm 119:116-117)

I certainly can use that "all grace" and hope today. How about you, dear friend?

LET IT GROW

In this chapter, we read two kinds of eulogies in prophetic form of the last declining years of Judah. first, Judah is likened unto a lioness that trains her young lions in the art of savagery. Those two young treacherous lions are Jehoahaz and Jehoiachin, bad kings of Judah. However, they were subdued. Pharaoh Necho captured Jehoahaz and led him away to Egypt as an animal. (verses 3-4) There he died. Nebuchadnezzar took Jehoiachin to Babylon and imprisoned him for 37 years. (verses 6-9)     [Resource: Liberty Bible Commentary]

We know that the prophecies of Ezekiel came to pass. There was no hope for escaping the Babylonian army nor for a short exile. The people had false hope of escaping God's judgment, but God was in control. He gave them opportunities to repent of idolatry and immorality as they heard what was coming if they did not. They were to lament with a funeral song for their evil leaders. (verse 1) Further reading is found in 2 Kings 23-24.

When we read about lions in the Old Testament, who do we think about? Daniel was put into a den of lions. do you know why this happened? It was because he refused to pray to the royal idol. I think those officials in the king Darius' court were jealous of Daniel, a foreigner, being there in the king's court. As they observed Daniel, they found he prayed 3 times a day, kneeling toward Jerusalem, to his God. This faithfulness was used against him, for those evil men convinced the king to make it unlawful to pray to any man or God except the king for 30 days. Little did the king know this was a scheme to get rid of Daniel when he made this a law. The guilty one was to be thrown into the lions' den. And so it happened to Daniel. (Read about it in Daniel 6.) We know the result was Daniel's God closing the mouth of those lions. Folks, we must be careful for lions are around us.

Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour. (2Peter 5:8)

King Darius recognized Daniel as the servant of the living God. He saw that God was all-powerful and the supreme deity. (Darius was exceedingly glad for Daniel.)

So Daniel was taken up out of the den, and no manner of hurt was found upon him, because he believed in his God. (Daniel 6:23b)

You know what happened next? Those evil officials and their families were thrown into the lions' den. A new law was made that everyone in his kingdom should tremble with fear before the God of Daniel.

For He is the living God, and He will endure forever. His kingdom will never be destroyed, and His rule will never end. He rescues and saves His people; He performs miraculous signs and wonders in the heavens and on earth. He has rescued Daniel from the power of the lions.      (Daniel 6:26-27)

What a testimony of God's power and Daniel's faithfulness! Are we faithful to pray 3 times a day to our living God? Does our testimony of faith bring others to salvation? Are you surrounded by lying lions? Has God rescued you lately? Will you share it with us?

LET IT GO

Our God is an awesome God. He reigns form heaven above, with wisdom, power, and love. Our God is an awesome God!

Does God Take Pleasure in What We Do?

O. T. #1891  "Does God Take Pleasure in What We Do?"

Ezekiel 18-Part 2

LET IT GLOW

In this chapter, we read that each person is accountable to God for their own sin. They are not judged according to the sins of their father, as Judah thought. If a person is just then they shall live. (verses 5 and 19) We learned that the word just means lawful, righteous. And the just shall live by faith.(Romans 1:17) [McGee says that this is speaking about this life on earth during the exile, and not eternal life.] Live coocurs in some form 13 times in this chapter and die occurs 14 times.

So what is this just person of Judah like, what does he do? The answers are found in verses 5-9:

  • They do that which is lawful and right. (verse 5) He walks in God's statues and keeps His ordinances.  Lawful means justice; divine law; ordinance; right; custom; ceremony. Right refers to rightness; justice; virtue. Doesn't it sound like this person obeys what laws, ordinances, ceremonies, and customs that God established for Israel to do towards Him and treats others right, just, and with virtue?
  • He had not feast in the mountains before Israel's idols or worship them there. (verse 6)
  • He did not commit adultery nor have sex with a woman on her period. (verse 6)
  • He was a merciful creditor, not keeping the items given as security by poor debtors. (verse 7)
  • He did not rob the poor, but instead gave food to the hungry and provided clothes for the needy. (verse 7)
  • He grants loans without interest, stays away from injustice, and is honest and fair when judging others. (verse 8)
  • He faithfully obeys God's decrees and regulations. (verse 9)

What is the promise God made to this person that does these things that are just? He would let them live. Righteous people will be rewarded for their righteous behavior. Those Judean Jews would be a part of the remnant saved those 70 years of exile in Babylon, is my thinking.

Doesn't that list sound like how Jesus said for us believers to live? It is because we have the love of Jesus in our heart that we have compassion on others and help them. Are we?

LET IT GROW

The wicked people do not those things listed above. They have the opportunity to turn from all their transgressions and sinful ways, but do not turn. God did not have pleasure in them, so they died during this time.

So when we repent and turn from our sinful ways, God gives us a new heart and a new spirit; we live in Him here and now and for eternity. It can't get any better than that friend!

Does God take pleasure in what we do? Pleasure means to bend; to be pleased with; delight; favor; be (well) pleased. Friend, is God delighted in our character and in our deeds? Is He will pleased in our words? Something to think about.

The LORD taketh pleasure in them that fear Him, in those that hope in His mercy. (Psalm 147:11)

For the LORD taketh pleasure in His people; He will beautify the meek with salvation. (Psalm 149:4)

Having made known unto us the mystery of His will according to His good pleasure which He hath purposed in Himself. (Ephesians 1:9)

For it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of His good pleasure. (Philippians 2:13)

Wherefore also we pray always for you, that our God would count you worthy of this calling, and fulfill all the good pleasure of His goodness, and the work of faith with power. (2 Thess. 1:11)

LET IT GO

Father, will you bless all who read and study Your Word with me?

Will You make us worthy of Your calling as a believer in Jesus Christ?

Will You take good pleasure in giving us of Your goodness today?

Will You lead us in doing the work of faith with the power of the Holy Spirit?

We praise You and thank You.

In Jesus' name,

Amen
