Jeremiah 29-Part 4
LET IT GLOW
Did you know there is a word that is used 6 times
in this chapter? Now that should definitely get our
attention, don't you think? Do you know what the
word is?
It is captivy, found in verses 14,16, 20, 22,
28, and 31. It is interesting that 3 different Hebrew
words are used here, but they all mean the same-
exiles(carried away).
Websters Dictionary defines captives as those held
under the control of another but having the appearance
of independence; captivity is the state of being captive.
These captives or exiles, were taken away to Babylon.
Their false prophets said it would only last a couple
of years. However, Jeremiah's letter to them told the
exiles to make the most of their time in Babylon, for
it would last 70 years.
Friend, is there anything holding you captive? Jesus
said in Luke 4:18 that he came to set free the captives.
When we turn over to Jesus those things that keep us
from enjoying the abundant life, He sets us free from
the stronghold it has in us. So many times it is the
attitude toward something or someone.
LET IT GROW
Do you recall those 3 Hebrew boys that were held
in captivity in Babylon? They were thrown into
the fiery furnace because they would not worship
the idol, golden image. But Jesus was in the fire
with them and they did not die. In fact, they came
out not smelling like smoke. Now that is something!
Is our faith strong enough to say that if Jesus does
not rescue us, we will still serve Him?
LET IT GO
Break the chains of sin that hold us captive, Jesus.
Keep our faith in You strong, even while we are
in the fire for standing up for Your Word.
