Keep Clinging

O. T. #391  "Keep Clinging "

Deuteronomy 10
Fear the LORD you God and serve Him. Hold fast to Him and take your oaths in His name.
Deuteronomy 10:20

LET IT GLOW

Have you ever picked up a piece of thin plastic wrap so you could throw it away? Then, when you tried to get rid of it, the thing kept clinging  to your finger. You try to shake it off, but the thing keeps clinging and would not go away into the trash can. Finally, it took both hands to get rid of it. It happened to me the other day. Do we cling to Him like the plastic wrap on my finger? Israel was told to hold fast, cling, to their God.

How does Moses describe the LORD our God?
  • God of gods,
  • Lord of lords,
  • a great God,
  • mighty and awesome,
  • who shows no partiality,
  • accepts no bribes,
  • defends the cause of the fatherless and widow,
  • loves the alien (stranger), giving him food and clothing,
  • made Israel numerous from 70 who went down to Egypt to be as many as the stars.
Falwell tells us that this describes the exclusiveness of God. There is no other God, and all idols are false.
We see the loving care of God for His people. He deserves our love, devotion, and admonition.
Do we show it? Do we give Him the praise and worship which He alone deserves?

As the song goes, He is worthy of worship, worthy of praise, worthy of love and devotion, worthy of all the glad songs that we sing, worthy of all of the offerings we bring. You are worthy, Father, Creator, You are worthy, Savior, Sustainer, worthy and wonderful, worthy of worship and praise.

LET IT GROW

When Moses broke the tablets of the Ten Commandments, it represented Israel's breaking the Law when they made and worshiped the golden calf.
What were instructions given to the Israelites in verses 12 and 13?
  • fear the LORD your God,
  • walk in all His ways,
  • love Him,
  • serve the LORD your God,
  • keep His commandments and statutes,
  • circumcise your heart (verse 16),
  • love the strangers (verse 19),
  • cleave to, hold fast to Him,
  • take your oaths in His name. (verse 20)
Hold fast is a verb that means to stick to, or  to hold onto. As a husband is to be united to his wife, so Israel was to cling to her God.  (MacArthur)

Are we holding fast to our God? Not just when times are hard, but when times are easy, too? We should always hold onto Jesus so tightly that nothing can shake us off Him. Don't let the daily schedule, trials, troubles, hurts, worries cause us to stop clinging to Jesus. Hold us in Your Hands, Lord.

LET IT GO

Turn from _______ and turn to Jesus.

Worship, praise, serve, love, cling to our God.

Cling to Jesus while He clings to me.
