Matthew 26-Part 16
LET IT GLOW
Caiaphas understood that Jesus was affirming both His messiahship and His deity for he accused Jesus of blasphemy (rail against God), so he asked the crowd of Sanhedrin what they thought to be done with Jesus. Their answer was, He is guilty of death. (verse 66)
Then what happened to Jesus? Then they spit in His face, and buffeted Him, and others smote Him with the palms of their hands. (verse 67)
Instead of worshiping the Messiah as they should have, they wickedly mocked and abused Jesus. (verse 67)
- First, they spit in His face. How humiliating for the Son of Holy God to be treated this way.
- Secondly, they buffeted (hit with fist) Him. That would have been painful, yet Jesus took it.
- Others smote (slapped) Jesus, the Christ, the Son of the Living God.
This was only the beginning of pain for Jesus to experience. Jesus had refused to answer on the spot, resulting in the first of many blows at the hands of His captors. (John 18:22)
LET IT GROW
Think of all the hostility He endured from sinful people; then you won't become weary and give up. (Hebrews 13:3)
And let us run with endurance the race God has set before us. (Hebrews 12:1b)
If it has been a hard year so far, cling to Jesus. If life has you weighed down, give it to Jesus. Rise up and praise Jesus! He can help us endure and hang on. His promises endure. Let Jesus be our hope.
LET IT GO
Please forgive us Jesus for us of our sins.
Thank You for enduring it all for us.
What a glorious Savior!
