The Law

Proverbs 28

LET IT GLOW

Hezekiah, who gathered this section of Proverbs, was king of the southern kingdom of Judah. He had a firsthand look at how lawlessness sent Israel, the northern kingdom, into a political tailspin.
Israel had all bad kings, and 9 were murdered. Israel eventually fell unto captivity by Assyria, since they forsook God.
Hezekiah was a good king in Judah. He destroyed the idols of false worship and reestablished the worship of God and reading of the Law in Judah.

The law demonstrates great wisdom. Proverbs is in close relationship with the Law-giving practical advice on how to apply the wisdom found there. For us, the Law helps us understand what God requires of Christians and how we are to treat others. Jesus Christ fulfilled the Law. We can't keep it since we sin, so we are in need of the Savior, Jesus Christ to be the propitiation for our sins.

He that covereth his sins shall not prosper: but whoso confesseth and forsaketh them shall have mercy. (verse 13)

Liberty Bible Commentary explains:
God and men cover sins. God covers with the blood of His Christ, and men with the shame of hypocrisy. confession is the divinely appointed method fro obtaining the mercy and blessing of God. Confession, when accompanied by forsaking, brings prosperity in the life of the child of God.
It is human nature to try to hide or overlook our sins. What we should do is admit sin, analyze where we messed up, and adjust our life so it isn't repeated.  We all make mistakes, sin, but it is the wise person who does not repeat them.
What do we need to do today-admit, analyze, or adjust?

LET IT GROW

A faithful man shall abound with blessings: but he that maketh haste to be rich shall not be innocent. (verse 20)

The man who purposes in his heart to cleave to the laws of Yahweh will be saved from much that vexes the soul of the perverse man. (Falwell)

We are directed in the True Way (Jesus) to be holy, honest, and happy. When we are faithful to God, we will be blessed. Although, we are cautioned against a false and deceitful way to happiness.
Are we faithful?

LET IT GO

Confess and forsake sin.
Remain faithful to God.
