Doing Good

 N.T.#712

Jan. 9, 2026 "Doing Good"

John 5-Part 4

LET IT GLOW

Are we doing good no matter what day it is? Jesus had that decision confront Him.

Where is the love? The religious leaders should have had compassion and love for others. But not the Pharisees. They had become warped in their thinking. After Jesus spoke to the healed man, the guy was able to identify Jesus as the one who healed him. Jesus healed a man on the Sabbath-broken a manmade law. That is why the Jews were persecuting Jesus.

Persecute means to pursue; given to (suffer); follow after.

They were going to make Jesus pay for it. They sought to slay Jesus. (verse 16)

 LET IT GROW

Jesus answered them by establishing His authority to work on the Sabbath. He is coequal with God the Father. The Jews angered and sought to kill Jesus, the Son of God.

We do not have an option to believe in God while ignoring God's Son Jesus. So the Pharisees had two choices: to believe Jesus or to accuse him of blasphemy. They chose the second.

The Word didn't become flesh to establish a new religion. He became one of us to restore a abroken relationship. He came to restore the true worship of God through grace.

If God stopped every kind of work on the Sabbath, nature would fall into chaos, and sin would overrun the world. He doesn't stop doing good just because it is Sunday. When the opportunity presents itself, we should not ignore it but do the good deed even if it is Sunday.
