Faithful and Hypocritical Servants

N.T.#273 "Faithful and Hypocritical Servants"

Matthew 24-Part 8

LET IT GLOW

Jesus tells us to be alert and ready for His coming at the rapture. Christians must be watching like a homeowner on the alert for a thief to break in. the timing of the rapture is unknown. (verses 42-44)

What do we learn from the parable of the two servants?

What about the faithful servant?

  • Be ready, for the Lord will come when we least expect it. (verse 44)
  • Be a faithful (trustworthy) and wise (discreet) servant until our Lord comes. (verse 45)
  • The Master finds this servant diligently working when He returns, doing a good job-he will be rewarded.(verse 46)
  • He will be made ruler over all his goods, put in charge of all that he owns.
Jesus wants us to spend the time of waiting taking care of His people and doing His work here on earth, both within the church and outside it. This is the best way to prepare for Christ's return. (Life Application Study Bible)

LET IT GROW

What about the contrasting servant?

  • He is called an evil (worthless; depraved; bad; wicked) servant. (verse 48)
  • He thinks the Master delays His coming. (verse 48)
  • He smites (repeated blows with fist, pam; punish; beat; wound) his fellowservants. (verse 49)
  • He eats and drinks with the drunken, partying. (verse 49)
  • This servant is not looking for his Lord. (verse 50)
  • He will be cut asunder (to bisect; to flog severely).
  • This servant will be assigned a place with the hypocrites (an actor under an assumed character ; stage-player) where there is weeping and gnashing of teeth-hell.
What a contrast between the faithful and hypocritical servants.

LET IT GO

Show us what You see in us Lord.

May we be a faithful servant.
