Matthew 21-Part 8
LET IT GLOW
Jesus gave the religious leaders, chief priests and elders, a second parable. A landowner planted a vineyard and left it to a foreman in charge and to work it. When it was time for the fruit, the owner sent his servants to collect, but they were beaten, stoned, and killed. Finally, the owner sent his son, thinking they would reverence him. Instead, they killed the son and desired to seize his inheritance.(verses 33-39)
Jesus asked the religious leaders what the owner would do to the foreman. What was their answer? He would destroy the wicked men and put another man in charge, giving him the fruits in their seasons. (verse 40-41)
Who are the min characters in this parable and who do they represent?
- The land owner is God;
- the vineyard is Israel;
- the farmers are the Jewish religious leaders;
- the landowner's servants are the prophets and priests faithfully preached for God to Israel;
- the son is Jesus;
- the other farmers are the Gentiles.
LET IT GROW
God sent His own Son to reach us with His love. Jesus lived a perfect life, His words were Truth, and His sacrifice of love are all meant to cause us to listen and follow Jesus as Lord. Hew laid down His life for us. If we ignore God's gracious gift of His Son, we reject God Himself. Jesus is the stone that builders rejected.
Jesus is the cornerstone of the new building, the church. (Acts 4:11, 1Peter 2:7)
One truth can effect people in different ways. We can build on it or trip over it. At the Last Judgment, God's enemies will be crushed by the stone, Jesus. He offers mercy and forgiveness now,but promises judgment later.
Have you surrendered to Jesus as your Master, Savior?
Who owns you?
LET IT GO
Lead us to do Your will Your way, Jesus.
We are Your servants, You are our Master.
