August 22, 2025
Luke 18-Part 3
But Jesus called them unto Him, and said, Suffer little children to come unto Me, and forbid them not: for of such is the kingdom of God. (verse 16)
LET IT GLOW
Luke described how our prayers are to be-persistent and humble. So should our actions be in bringing children to Jesus.
What happened here?
People had brought infants/children to Jesus for Him to touch them, yet the disciples were rebuking them. It was a tradition of an elder to place their hands upon the head of a person and pronounce a blessing. Perhaps there was a long line of folks seeking a blessing from Jesus. The disciples were expressing their strong disapproval.
In ancient history, Gentiles and children were worthless and helpless. Children have nothing to give, as they are needy and dependent upon others. Mothers would often take their children to the rabi for a blessing. But the disciples thought the kids were unworthy of the Master's time. Boy did He set them straight.
LET IT GROW
Jesus didn't turn away the children, but He rebuked His disciples for doing so.
What was Jesus' reaction?
- Children were not a nuisance to Him.
- Jesus welcomed them with enthusiasm, as He loved them..
- He said that we must be trusting with childlike faith in order to be saved and enter the kingdom of God. (verse 16)
- Jesus went on to say that if we do not receive the kingdom of God as a little child, then we will not enter in. (verse 17)
