Broken Hearts Find Healing and Peace

Ezekiel 31-Part 4

LET IT GLOW

Friend, do you have a broken spirit, or a broken heart today. Here is some hope for you. When we studied the book of Psalm, I highlighted verses that were significant to me. These are included:

For Thou desirest not sacrifice; else would I give it: Thou delightest not in burnt offering. The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit: a broken and a contrite heart, O God, Thou wilt not despise.   (Psalm 51:16-17)

But I am like a green olive tree in the house of God: I trust in the mercy of God for ever and ever. I will praise Thee for ever, because Thou hast done it: and I will wait on Thy name; for it is good before Thy saints. (Psalm 52:8-9)

Contrite means to collapse (Physically or mentally); break (sore); crouch.

Because David was on the run for his life from King Saul some 15 years, he took refuge with Priest Ahimelech, who gave him assistance. Then an enemy Edomite Doeg informed the king, and Ahimelech was executed. David knew God did not want external worship and sacrifice, but He wants a humbled heart that is broken over personal sin. True worship requires that we give ourselves wholly to God without reserve. (Romans 12:1) When God's people come to Him in true repentance, then God will show them favor and accept their worship. (Tony Evans)

As we go about our day, keep in mind that God is with you and praise Him. As David trusted in God's faithful love, remember He is faithful and never changes His character.

LET IT GROW

After Ezekiel's two visions of dry bones coming alive and two sticks uniting, he shared an Everlasting Covenant of peace that God was going to give His remnant. We read the words for ever and evermore, each appearing twice in verses 25-28.

God had previously given the Abrahamic Covenant of promising a new land and his descendants as numerous as the sand. Then the Mosaic Covenant of blessing for obedience and curses for disobedience of Israel concerning the law. The Davidic Covenant said he would always have a descendant on the throne of Israel, which was ultimately Jesus Christ. Now we are in the church era in which the Holy Spirit indwells believers in Jesus Christ. The Millennium is coming in which Jesus reigns as King on earth and peace will be for a thousand years. (verse 26-28) Finally, there will be an eternity future (Rev. 21:3) in which He will dwell with His people and be their God. (Reference: The MacArthur Bible Commentary)

This peace has not been experienced by Israel as of yet. Many nations have fought them, trying to conquer their land and the people down through the ages. This peace will come upon Israel whenever the Prince of Peace, God's Son Jesus, reigns as their King. Jesus is the New Covenant, as Jeremiah said in 31:31-34 and the Messiah will rebuild the New Temple in Jerusalem.

Habakkik 2:14 says, the earth shall be filled with the knowledge of the glory of the Lord, as the waters cover the sea.

I will be their God and they shall be My people. (verse 27)

Numerous times God proclaims this statement throughout Ezekiel. What a day and time that will be for everyone. Are you ready? Is God your God?

He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life. (1John 5:12)

This is a promise of everlasting life, if you know Jesus Christ as your Savior. After all, dead bones can come alive. So can your spirit be made new and your heart cleansed and be renewed.

LET IT GO

Father, please cleanse us from all our sins, for our righteousness is as filthy rags. We need the righteousness of Jesus, our soul washed in His blood.

Heal our broken hearts and lives. Put us back together and reshape us.

As we doubt Your goodness, open our eyes to see You are good and You do good things for us.

Bless those who need their faith renewed today, for You are faithful.

You never fail.

Ezekiel 31-Part 3

LET IT GLOW

After David was confronted with his sins, he wrote theses verses:

Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me. (Psalm 51:10)

Caste me not away from Thy presence; and take not Thy Holy Spirit from me. (verse 11)

Restore unto me the joy of Thy salvation; and uphold me with Thy free spirit. (verse 12)

David knew his heart needed changing. He deliberately disobeyed God's laws. The Lord did forgive David, but allowed him to suffer the consequences of his sins. Because we are born with a sin nature, none of us are perfect nor holy. We need a clean heart and right spirit for new thoughts and desires. Jesus forgives our sins and sets us free from the penalty of sin-death spiritually. First we must ask His forgiveness. Then our joy and gladness are restored.

LET IT GROW

When Ezekiel saw dry bones come alive in his vision God gave him, he knew Israel would live again, be resurrected. This happened when the remnant of Jews went back to Jerusalem (from Judah and Israel, both northern and southern tribes). Then in the Lord told the prophet to take two sticks to illustrate this. What would result in this (verses 21-24)?

  • The Jews would be gathered together in their own land. (verse 21)
  • They would form one nation. (verse 22)
  • They would have one king. (verse 22)
  •  No more would they worship idols nor have detestable things. (verse 23)
  • They would be cleansed from their sins.
  • God would be their God.(verse 23)

The MacArthur Bible Commentary sums this up by saying God gave Israel three promises:

  1. restoration (verse 21)
  2. unification (verse 22)
  3. purification (verse 23)

Again, it was in 1948 when Israel was recognized as a nation. During the Millennium, Jesus Christ the Messiah will return to reign as Israel's King and King over all the earth.

LET IT GO

Cleanse our hearts, change our hearts and attitudes in American, Jesus.

Restore joy to the hearts of believers and Your churches.

Dry Bones Bring Hope and Life

O. T. #1930  "Dry Bones Bring Hope and Life"

Ezekiel 37-Part 2

LET IT GLOW

Today's Psalm 51 was written by David when Nathan the prophet came to him, after he had been with Bathsheba. David's sin of adultery and conspiracy of murder was brought to light. Like David, when confronted, we should be sorrowful over our sins:

Have mercy upon me, O God, according to Thy lovingkindness: according unto the multitude of Thy tender mercies blot out my transgressions. (verse 1)

Wash me thoroughly from mine iniquity, and cleanse me from my sin. (verse 2)

For I acknowledge my transgressions: and my sin is ever before me.  (verse 3)

Purge me with hyssop, and I shall be clean: wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow. (verse 7)

Make me to hear joy and gladness; that the bones which Thou hast broken may rejoice. (verse 8)

What dirt is to the body, sin is to the inner person, so it was right for David to feel defiled because of what he had done. David had crossed over the line God had drawn in His law; he had missed the mark God had set for him and had yielded to his twisted sinful nature. Hyssop was a shrub with hairy stems that could be dipped into liquid, and the priests used it to sprinkle blood or water on people needing ceremonial cleansing. Today's believers find their cleansing in the work Jesus accomplished on the cross (1 John 1:5-10). (Wiersbe)

David needed a new start (2 Sam. 12:20). He desired joy and gladness once again. The Lord forgave David, but permitted him to suffer the tragic consequences of his sins (2Sam. 12:13-14).

If you or a loved one is living a sinful lifestyle. Good news is that Jesus is merciful and will cleanse us from all unrighteousness when we ask Him to do so.

LET IT GROW

Israel and Judea were going to be reborn and reunited after their 70 years under Babylon's rule. Their land would be cleansed, too.

We pick up our story as Ezekiel walks through the valley of dry bones (those who were killed by the Babylonian army). God asked the prophet, "Can these bones live?" Ezekiel answered, "O Lord God, Thou knowest." We realize that nothing is impossible with our God. (Luke 1:37)

In the Hebrew, bones refers to a bone (as strong); selfsame: body, bone;,life; strength.

Bones provide support for our body, allow us to move, and protect our vital organs. Within our bones, the marrow contains red and white blood cells, platelets needed in the body. Bones store important minerals, calcium and phosphorus, releasing them as needed. Also, bones store fats to provide energy if required. So this shows us how important healthy bones are to our body. If our bones are not strong or the marrow is not normal, then we have health issues.

God told Ezekiel to speak to those dry bones, O ye dry bones, hear the Word of the LORD:

  • God said He would cause breath to enter the bones and they would live. (verse 5)
  • He would lay sinews (tendons) on them, covering the bones with flesh and skin, and put breath (life, spirit, wind) in them. (verse 6,8)
  • Then God did it, reviving those bones-first bone to bone, then sinews, flesh, skin, and finally breath.
  • With God's breath in those dry bones, they lived, and stood up on their feet, making an exceeding army. What a physical resurrection! What a sight to see and experience for Ezekiel-clanging of bones, skin and sinews covering them, the noise of first breaths all around him. Wow!
  • God said that those bones were Israel; Israel had said their bones were dry and they lost hope, separated from their home. Was Israel finished? Was all hope gone for God's chosen people?
  • God was going to open their graves of exile and cause Israel to rise again. They would return to their land. When that happened, Israel know God is the LORD. He would put His Spirit in them, they would live again, return home.
  • What God spoke, He did. We know the rest of the story. After 70 years, three groups of Jews returned to the land of Jerusalem.

What an illustration of the future national life of Israel. Ezekiel had some encouraging words to tell the Jewish remnant.

Dear believer, do you need some hope today? Jesus is the resurrection and life for our soul. He alone can give us new life and hope. Just think, heaven is waiting on us, where there is no pain, no sorrow, no evil. If you know Jesus as your Lord and Savior, friend, heave is awaiting for you.

If you have never asked Jesus to be your Savior, you can right now. Ask Him to forgive your sins, come into your heart.  (Believe with your heart that Jesus is the Son of God who died in your place so you don't have to pay for your sins.) Admit you are  a sinner, believe Jesus died in your place, confess those sins. He loves you so much that Jesus left heaven to die for you.

LET IT GO

Truly, all things are possible with You, God.

Jesus, keep us focused on You today.

Breath Your Spirit into us, leading us in Kingdom work.

May the Lord bless you and keep you.

Can These Dry Bones Live?

O.T. #1929 "Can These Dry bones Live?"

April 27, 2021

Ezekiel 37

LET IT GLOW

Here are some positive verses:

Offer unto God thanksgiving; and pay thy vows unto the most High. And call upon Me in the day of trouble: I will deliver thee, and thou shalt glorify Me. (Psalm 50:14-15)

And the heavens shall declare His righteousness: for God is judge Himself. (Ps. 50:6)

The Lord didn't want ritualism or formalism. He wants our worship to come form the heart. What He wants from us is thanksgiving from their hearts, obedience in His Word, prayer, and a desire to honor Him in everything. (Wiersbe)

Even when life has us spinning around, we can keep our balance when our eyes are fixed on Jesus. Gazing at our circumstances can result in our being dizzy and confused. So when we look to our Savior, He refreshes us and directs our steps so they are steady and sure. Then we can make the right decisions in the right direction.

LET IT GROW

This is probably one of the well known chapters written by Ezekiel. Have you heard the song about "Dem bones, Dem bones, Dem dry bones?"  Well, this is where it came from, my friend. You see, when the Babylonian army attacked Judah and Jerusalem, they left behind dead Jews in open graves or valleys-piled up bones that dried up. However, remnants were taken to the land of Babylon before the attack. They had lost hope of returning to their Promised Land and encouragement, even before they had lived 70 years in the foreign land.

Then God gives Ezekiel two signs-the valley filled with very dry bones, also Gog and Magog (chapters 8-39). In verses 1 and 2, the Spirit carried Ezekiel to the valley of Chaldea. He saw sun-bleached bones of skeletons, which had been cleaned by scavenger birds and animals, in the valley.

Then God asked the prophet a question, Son of man, can these  bones live?

What was Ezekiel's answer? O Lord God, Thou knowest. (verse 3)

Only God knew the answer, which is true. But doesn't it sound like he was reluctant to speak more confidently since Israel was in ruins and the bones of Jerusalem's people were still lying in the city's rubble?

Before we are too hard on Ezekiel, let's consider that it was humiliating for a Jew's dead body to not be washed, wrapped, and buried in a grave or a tomb. Those bodies the prophet saw in his vision may have been soldiers in the Jewish army. Actually, God had warned Israel in a covenant that their sins would bring shame upon them if they disobeyed Him. (Deuteronomy 28:25-26, Jeremiah 34:20)

McGee said that it was beyond Ezekiel to see how those dry bones could live. Only God knew whether those dead bones could live or not.

Ezekiel must have wondered why God gave him this vision and had him walk around among the bones. From a human point of view, the answer to God's question would have been no, but from the divine point of view, nothing is impossible with God.

Romans 4:17 tells us, God gives life to the dead and calls those things which do not exist as though they did.

Folks, is our spirit as dry as those dry bones Ezekiel saw in his vision? I hope not. If we are in the valley of dry bones, we must turn to Jesus for a filling of His Spirit to revive us. Does our church seem like a pile of dry bones-spiritually dead with no hope of vitality? God can restore them just as He did bones in front of Ezekiel. We must pray for renewal and not give up. God can restore it to life. Dead churches can live again! He can give us new life and purpose with the Spirit of God in us.

LET IT GO

Let go of what is making us dry and turn to Jesus for spiritual renewal.

Make us alive again, Jesus!

Fill us with Your Spirit, praising You.

Renewed

O. T. #1928 "Renewed"

Psalm 47 and 48 has a few good verses:

O clap your hands, all ye people; shout unto God with the voice of triumph. (verse 10

For the LORD Most High is awesome. He is the great King of all the earth. (verse 2, NLT)

Sing praises to God, sing praises: sing praises unto our King, sing praises. (verse 6)

Great is the LORD, and greatly to be praise in the city of our God, in the mountain of His holiness. (Ps. 48:1)

For this God is our God for ever and ever: He will be our guide even unto death. (verse 14)

Dear friend, is God (supreme God) your God? Is He awesome to you? Is Jesus Christ your great King? If He is, then praise Him with singing. Is He your guide?

LET IT GROW

The people of Judah polluted God's land by disobeying His law, acting like the heathen nations, breaking the covenant, worshiping idols, and sacrificing their children. Also, they profaned God's name before the Gentile pagans. Five times we are told this in chapter 36. In the sanctuary and on the Sabbaths the Jews did this. Therefore, God sanctified them and cleaned the land by using the Babylonian army burning down everything.

However, God promised restoration to the faithful remnant after 70 years of captivity. Since God is gracious, He gives what we don't deserve, and merciful as He does not give us what we do deserve!

The Wiersbe Bible Commentary tells us how God transformed His people:

  1. God cleansed them from their sins. (verses 25 and 29)
  2. He gave them a new heart. (verse 26)
  3. The Lord gave them the Holy Spirit within. (verse 27)
  4. He claimed them as His people. (verse 28)
  5. The Lord caused the land to flourish. (verses 29-30, 33-35)
  6. The people would abhor their sins. (verse 31)
  7. Fellowship with the Lord is the seventh blessing. (verse 37)
  8. Their population would be multiplied. (verses 37-38)
  9. Then the Lord would be glorified.

Born-again believer, do you see the parallel her with our own experience of faith in Jesus Christ? He gives us new hearts and His Holy Spirit within us. Jesus provides us with fellowship with a Holy God. He wants to give us life abundantly in faith so we will glorify His name. Hallelujah, what a Savior!

LET IT GO

What do we need to let go of so we can have life abundantly?

Is there a sin that keeps us from fellowshipping with God?

Are we sharing with others what He has done for us lately?

Is our heart being renewed daily?

Is Your Heart Tender or Hard as a Stone?

O. T. #1927  "Is Your Heart Tender or Hard as a Stone?"

April 23, 2021

Ezekiel 36-Part 2

LET IT GLOW

God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. (Psalm 46:1)

God is in the midst of her; she shall not be moved: God shall help her, and that right early.   (verse 5)

Be still, and know that I am God: I will be exalted among the heathen, I will be exalted in the earth. (verse 10)

The LORD of hosts is with us; the God of Jacob is our refuge. (verse 11)

Is God your place of security? He is never too busy, but is always available to us. He never leaves us, too. Right early God will help us when we cry out to Him. Sometimes we just need to be still and know He is God and never looses control.

LET IT GROW

Why did God pour our His fury upon the heathen nations? Why did He scatter them? It was because they profaned God's holy name. (verse 20,22)

Looking at verse 22, God says that He will:

  •  sanctify His great name, not for Israel's sake, but for God's sake. (Israel had also profaned His holy name.)
  • Then God would sanctify Israel before the heathen's eyes. (verse 23)
  • He would cleanse Israel from their filthiness and idols. (verse 25)
  • A new heart also will I give you, and a new spirit will I put within you: and I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh, and I will give you a heart of flesh. (verse 26)

Sin can stiffen us allowing evil to take over our lives. It can cause our heart to turn hard toward God. Our heart is deceitfully wicked when left to itself. In the end, it can destroy us. this stony heart can lead us down a path of destruction.

The more sin we allow to pass over our hearts and through our lives, the more resistant we become to a word from God. (Blackaby)

God can separate us from the influences that are destroying us. (verse 24) God can cleanse us from our sins. (verse 25) When we ask, God will remove our hardened heart and filthiness, selfishness, pride, and give us a new heart and new spirit. Do we need a heart of flesh that is tender toward God and His Word? Is our love for God what it should be today? Is He waiting to restore our devotion to Him? It is through the death of Jesus that we are able to come to God.

LET IT GO

Help me to deny myself, take up my cross, and follow You, Jesus.

Forgive me of my pride and selfishness.

I need a new heart and a new spirit again today, Lord.

Better, Beautiful, and Best Are Coming

O. T. #1926  "Better, Beautiful, and Best Are Coming"

April 22, 2021

Ezekiel 36

LET IT GLOW

In Psalm 45, David writes a song to the sons of Korah:

Thy throne, O God, is for ever and ever; the scepter of Thy kingdom is a right scepter. Thou lovest righteousness, and hatest wickedness: therefore God, thy God, hath anointed thee with the oil of gladness above thy fellows. (Psalm 45:6-7)

Thou art fairer than the children of men: grace is poured into thy lips: therefore God hath blessed thee for ever. (verse 2)

With gladness and rejoicing shall they be brought: they shall enter into the king's palace. (verse 15)

Do we have the oil of gladness, grace in our words, and rejoice, as well, glad that we are a child of the King, King Jesus?

LET IT GROW

As we read this long chapter, we see a picture of Israel's restoration to have favor both in God's eyes and among the nations that had ridiculed and attacked it.  In Ezekiel's prophecy, he said that Israel would return to their land (which was after 70 years) and restored as a nation. We know this happened. In the first seven verses, God judged those nations. Israel's enemies challenged not only their boundaries, but also God's promises to Israel. Then in verses 8-15, His people are restored, physically and spiritually. God was going to protect His Holy name and Israel would know He alone is the One True Living God. God was concerned with salvation not only of His people, but also of the whole world.

For, behold, I am for you, and I will turn unto you, and ye shall be tilled and shown. (verse 9)

What would increase in Israel? The people, the animals, fruit, and cities would increase.

I will settle you after your old estates, and will do better unto you than at your beginnings: and ye shall know that I am the LORD. (verse 11c)

Israel recovered from the captivity, from the Roman rule, and attempts to be conquered. They have experienced living in their Promised Land, although smaller. And it is a beautiful land given to them as a gift from God.

I know this verse was spoken to the remnant Jews with Ezekiel in Babylon, but it is the verse I have been looking for as a confirmation that we are doing the right thing by selling our farm. (It has been in my family around 70 years.) Houses are being built all around us, so it isn't much of a farm atmosphere. It has been a very difficult decision to make for all of us. But I felt the Lord said it was time to sell. So I know He has something better out there for us, a wonderful house to live in.

Settle means to sit down (in quiet); to dwell; to remain; make to keep (house) in the Hebrew language.

Better refers to a good thing; beautiful; fine precious; loving; best.

So while we are waiting for the developer to decide that this is do-able for them to build many house on, we have been looking for us a house to move to. When it is the right house that God has for us, we will know it. I kept praying that God will lead us to it. Then we find it, we will know it is it. We already know that He is LORD. In the meanwhile, we keep serving the Lord where He has placed us.

Friends, we have a beautiful place to which we will spend eternity. It will be the best that Jesus has to offer. Are you headed to heaven? Jesus is The Way and the only way. Believe in Him today, ask Jesus to forgive your sins, and to be your Savior so you are.

LET IT GO

King Jesus, You are so righteous, faithful, loving, gracious, and merciful.

Fill us with joy today so we can honor You.

Thank You that the best is yet to come.

Need Exceeding Joy?

O. T. #1925  "Need Exceeding Joy?"

April 21, 2021

Ezekiel 35

LET IT GLOW

We continue to find encouragement in the book of Psalms, looking at chapter 43 today:

For Thou art the God of my strength... (verse 2)

Then will I to unto the altar of God, unto God my exceeding joy: yea, upon the harp will I praise Thee, O God my God. (verse 4)

Shall not God search this out? for He knoweth the secrets of the heart. (Psalm 44:22)

Hope in God: for I shall yet praise Him, who is the health of my countenance, and my God.   (verse 5b)

Dear one, do you need strength today? How about some exceeding joy? Then praise the Lord God. Remember, He knows the secrets of our heart. He knows when we have been mistreated, looked over, discouraged. Luke 1:37 says, Nothing is impossible with God. So let's give Him our impossible to become possible.

LET IT GROW

Ezekiel mentions Mt. Seir, which is the land of the Edomites, who where located south of the Dead Sea and a rugged, mountainous area. The Edomites were descendants of Esau, twin brother of Jacob, who sod his birthright to Jacob for some stew. He had been a rebel at heart, then hatred set in as Jacob received the blessing of their father and the Lord through the blessings of covenant. This hatred has continued down through time.

After Jerusalem was destroyed in God's judgment by the Babylonian army, Edom gloated over their destruction. They even assisted in cutting off survivors coming from Jerusalem. Their greed caused them to desire claim to Judah and Samaria for themselves, completely ignoring the will of the Lord. But the land was meant for Jacob, not Esau, and their descendants.

The Lord saw their anger and promised to repay them, reaping what they sowed. He heard their blasphemous and rejoicing words against the Israelites. Edom would not escape judgment as they boasted in pride. One day, the whole earth would rejoice over the fall of Edom! (34:28)

Their perpetual (eternal, without end) hatred would result in perpetual desolations (waste, devestation). The land still belongs to Israel and in the future day (Millennial Kingdom), Israel would be restored. The whole earth will rejoice, and Edom will continue to be a desolate place. (Isaiah, Jeremiah, and Ezekiel predicted this.) Edom would come to know that God is the Lord. We must be careful, for he who curses Israel will be cursed of the Lord.

LET IT GO

Be careful not to complain, grumble, or judge when things don't go our way.

We stand in awe and sing great are You Lord Jesus!

Questions, Burdens, Yokes

O. T. #1925  "Questions, Burdens, Yokes"

April 20

Ezekiel 34-Part 4

LET IT GLOW

In  Psalm 42, David asks several questions, of which most center around him:

When can I go? Where is God? Why am I discouraged? Why is my heart so sad? Why has God forgotten me? Why am I grieved and oppressed by my enemies?

Friend, have you asked those same questions? Or maybe you are like me and just wonder about those things? Not only did David ask questions, but he also gave himself answers:

As the deer panteth for the water, so my soul longeth after Thee. (verse 10)

I thirst for God, the Living God. (verse 2)

I will put my hope in God! I will praise Him again-my Savior and my God! (verse 5,11)

Now I am deeply discouraged, but I will remember you. (verse 6)

But each day the LORD pours His unfailing love upon me, and through each night I sing His songs, praying to God who gives me life. (verse 8)

Now, here are some soul-searching questions we should ask our self:

Does our soul long and thirst for our God? Is our hope in Him? Are we singing praises to our Savior Jesus? Do we thank God for His unfailing love that He pours upon us? Do we pray each night to our God?

LET IT GROW

Now let's take one last look into chapter 34.  In verses 25-31, God promised to bless Israel when she returns to their land. He will give them a covenant of peace (verse 25) and physical security-safety in the land from dangerous animals and human enemies (verse 25). What blessings does God say He will show upon Israel?

  • blessings of weather (verse 26)
  • blessings of abundant fruitage (verse 27)
  • blessings of a living relationship to the Lord God. (verses 30-31)

...and shall know that I am the LORD, when I have broken the bands of their yoke, and delievered them out of the hand of those that served themselves of them. (verse 27c)

Thus shall they know that I the LORD their God am with them, and that they, even the house of Israel, are My people. (verse 30)

Folks, do we have a heavy band of yoke that needs to be delivered off us? A yoke was a heavy wooden harness that fits over the shoulders of an ox or oxen. It is attached to a piece of equipment the oxen are to pull. A person may be carrying heavy burdens of sin, demands, oppression and persecution, or weariness. Jesus can free us from all these burdens.

Here is the answer:

Jesus said in Matthew 11:28-30, Come unto Me, all ye that labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you, and learn of Me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. For My yoke is easy, and My burden is light.

The rest that Jesus promises is love, healing, and peace with God; not the end of labor. A relationship with God changes meaningless, wearisome toil into spiritual productivity and purpose. Responsibilities may weigh us down, but Jesus' yoke lightens the load and makes it easy to continue on because He is sharing in the load. So we must give those challenges, work, difficulties, and burdens for Him to carry as we go through life. [Resource: Life Application Study Bible]

LET IT GO

Is Jesus waiting for us to hand it over to Him?

Put my hope in Him today.

God Will

O. T. #1924  "God Will"

April 19, 2021

Ezekiel 34-Part 3

LET IT GLOW

More wonderful verses are in Psalm 40 which David wrote from his heart as he sang to the Lord God:

Let those that seek Thee rejoice and be glad in Thee: let such as love Thy salvation say continually, The LORD be magnified. (verse 16)

I delight to do Thy will, O my God: yea thy law is within my heart. (verse 8)

I have not hid Thy righteousness within my heart; I have declared Thy faithfulness and Thy salvation: I have not concealed Thy lovingkindness and Thy truth from the great congregation. (verse 10)

But I am poor and needy; yet the Lord thinketh upon me: Thou art my help and my deliverer; make no tarrying, O my God. (verse 17)

David was enthusiastic about telling others what the Lord had done for him (for about 15 years of running from King Saul, who had wanted to kill David). Among the worshipers, King David gave glory to the Lord. What a good example for us to follow. Worship is not an escape from life but the opportunity to honor God and be equipped to face life and live for His glory. (Wiersbe)

Did you catch the "I am-You are?" in verse 17? Sometimes we just need reminding that our great I AM is adequate for every need.

LET IT GROW

The Lord always keeps His promises. He provides for His sheep, too. We will pick up the rest of the "I will's" found in this chapter. There are 18 in all that appear in verses 11-29 God says He will:

8. Seek that which was lost (verse 16)

9. Bind up that which was broken

10. strengthen that which was sick

11. destroy the fat and the strong (those who prey on the weak)

12. Feed them with judgment, those fat and strong

13. Judge between the fat cattle and lean cattle (verse 20) (Those trample down pastures, muddy  drinking water, and push the weaker ones around.)

14. Save His flock (verse 21)

15. Judge between cattle and cattle (leaders who take advantage of the people) (verse 22)

16. Set up one shepherd over them (Jesus Christ) (verse 23)

17. I, the LORD, will be their God. (verse 24)

18. Make with them a covenant of peace. (verse 25)

In verse 28, God says that Israel will no more be a prey to the heathen or the beast of the field, but they shall dwell safely and none shall make them afraid.

They are still that today, but God says, "I will," and when He says that, He is going to do it, my friend. (J.Vernon McGee)

Friend, are you beaten down, broken in spirit? Jesus is the Good Shepherd that can mend your heart. He is our hope. Are you trusting in Him today?

I am the Good Shepherd, and know My sheep, and am known of mine. ... I lay down My life for the sheep. ... and they shall hear My voice and there shall be one fold, and one Shepherd. No man taketh it (His life) from me, but I lay it down of Myself. I have the power to lay it down, and I have power to take it again.(John 10:14-18)

Jesus is all-powerful. Do you believe this? Do I believe this? Then why are we worrying? Ouch!

LET IT GO

May the meditation of my heart and the words of my mouth be pleasing to You, O LORD God.

Good Shepherd, lead us today along the path You have for us so we can share the good things You have done for us.

Love Him in the morning, the noontime, and when the sun goes down.

Baaa When Having a Bad Day

O. T. #1924 "Baaa When Having a Bad Day"

April 16, 2021

Ezekiel 34-Part 2

LET IT GLOW

Listen to what David wrote in Psalm 40:

I waited patiently for the LORD; and He inclined unto me, and heard my cry. He brought me up also out of a horrible pit, out of the miry clay, and set my feet upon a rock, and established my goings. And He hath put a new song in my mouth, even praise unto our God: many shall see it, and fear, and shall trust in the LORD. (verses 1-3)

O LORD my God, you have performed many wonders for us. Your plans for us are too numerous to list. You have no equal. If I tried to recite all your wonderful deeds, I would never come to the end of them. (verse 5, NLT)

No matter what our trouble or trial, it's always good to look back and recall the goodness of the Lord. If David learned anything from his exile years, it was that ultimate success depends on faith in the Lord and patience during His providential working. God brought him up, God stood him up, and God tuned him up. David saw the goodness of God's works (wonders) and the wisdom of His plans.                  (The Wiersbe Bible Commentary)

Has God given you a new song in your heart lately? Trusting God makes one happy. Are your feet on a solid Rock (Jesus)? All other ground is sinking sand.

LET IT GROW

Previously, we read about God referring to His people as sheep. Judah was scattered because they had no shepherd. (verse 5) Their false shepherds, prophets, had led them astray into idolatry. They did not feed the sheep on the Word of God and lead them to repentance of sins.

In verses 11-29, God's "I will" occurs 18 times:

  1. seek out My sheep (verse 12)
  2. deliver them out of all places where they have been scattered (v.12)
  3. bring them out from the people and countries (v.13)
  4. bring them to their own land and feed them upon the mountains of Israel by the rivers (v.13)
  5. feed them in a good and fat pasture (v.14)
  6. feed His flock (v.15)
  7. cause them to lie down (v. 15)

God promises to take over as Shepherd of His flock. He is still in control and can transform any tragic situation into good of His kingdom. When our leaders fail us, we must not despair but remember that God promises to take care for His sheep. (Romans 8:28)

Are you one of God's sheep? If so, then let Him be your Good Shepherd, so you don't want, lack. Lie down in His green pastures of peace, trusting in Him. He is our Living Water for our dry soul. (Ps. 23:1) Is Jesus your Good Shepherd? (John 10:11) He laid down His life for you. (John 10:15, 17)

My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me: And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of My hand. (John 10:28-29)

When you are having a bad day, baaaa, and your Good Shepherd will come to your rescue. Listen for His voice and He will direct you on the path that you should go. Seek Him for the more abundant life. Words I need to heed.

LET IT GO

Good Shepherd, lead us in Your will, ways, and wisdom today.

Your sheep need Your help, encouragement, love, support.

Bless us with Your peace as we go through this day.

Save us from those who try to rob us of joy.

Incredible!

O. T. #1923  "Incredible!"

April 15, 2021

Ezekiel 34

LET IT GLOW

So I have had this verse sitting on my desk for 11 days now. (It is a daily devotional spiral thing that is written by Billy Graham. Wanted to share it with you as well as his comments.

(May you know) His incomparably great power for us who believe. That power is like the working of His mighty strength, which He exerted in Christ when He raised Him from the dead. (Ephesians 1:19-20)

NLT tells us that what Paul does for the church at Ephesus: I also pray that you will understand the incredible greatness of God's power for us who believe Him.

KJV says it this way: exceeding greatness of His power.

Did you know that the same power that raised Christ from the dead is available to you and me today? He gives us supernatural power to overcome temptations, to smile through tears, to experience joy despite life's burdens and trials. The Holy Spirit will raise you from the mundane, the monotonous, the hopeless; He will raise you out of your spiritual lifelessness and transform you.

Three months ago we visited my cousin, a real estate agent, about listing our farm for sale. During those three months my family struggled with making that decision definite. I dare say that it has been the hardest decision for us to make in a few years. You see, I grew up on this farm, lived my first 18 years in this farmhouse. However, the Lord spoke to my heart that it was time to sell, letting it go. My husband struggled with this since it is the only house he has ever lived in for 15 years. Our son has had cows on the land that long, too. He and his wife lived her while she got her masters degree. It was our my parents' home for about 49 years. It was the place we visited for peace, acceptance, and love while in the ministry. (We were gone 17 years.)

What lead us to this point is that my brother has sold lots on 40 acres of our parents' farm across the road. Now two new houses have been built and two more are in progress. Also, behind the back 40 acres we own are a hundred houses being built on that old farm. Our neighborhood is not the same anymore. Can you understand the struggle we had?

Well, 3 days after we finally signed the papers to list the farm for sale, a developer is intending to buy it. (Same company building the houses behind us.) Folks, we are getting an outrageous price for it. (Maybe we priced it so high thinking no one would want to buy it, don't know.) I said all of this to show you how our God works when we are in His will. Truly, it is the incredible and exceeding great power of God that is at work here.

I think this will open up some new avenues of ministry for my family. We cannot out give our God. I consider it a blessing from Him. I have said that life is full of challenges; it is how we respond that counts. So pray for us that we find the house in the place God has for us to live and the town, too. As we look forward to an exciting future, we must stay focused on God's leading. This country road of faith has taken us around the world in mission work spreading the good news of salvation in Jesus Christ. I know it will continue to do so. Such showers of blessings! Isn't God incredible? He does exceedingly abundantly above all we ask or think!

As I think on the blessings God is giving us, I consider you one of them. Thank you, dear friends for your faithfulness to study God's Word with me. It is not anything I can say, but the Lord's Words.

Have you experienced the power of God working in your life lately? Will you take time to share with us?

LET IT GROW

In Ezekiel 33-39, God gave this prophet words of restoration concerning Israel. In chapter 34, God warns His dealings with the shepherds, prophets, priests, and kings of Judah/Israel/Jerusalem. Their false prophets prophesied deliverance from Babylon (Jeremiah 28); the priests, such as Eli's sons lived immoral lives (1Samuel 2); the kings, such as Rehoboam, overtaxed the people (2Chronicles 10).

The sheep (Jews-God's chosen people) were not ministered to by those folks. How are the sheep described in verses 4-5? They were sick, diseased, broken, and scattered. The sheep were wandering through the mountains and up on high hills, where idol worship took place, led by false shepherds. Therefore, they were scattered among the nations.

In verses 11-16, the Lord Himself will regather Israel from all the nations among which they were scattered. In reference to being sheep, the Jews would:

  • be fed in good pastureland,
  • lie down in peace at the pleasant places in mountains and hills;
  • be fed by the rivers,
  • have God tend to them, searching for the lost sheep that went astray,
  • be bandaged injured ones and the weak will be strengthened,
  • be separated as sheep from the goats,
  • no longer be abused flocks.

LET IT GO

Thank You Father that You can send down an army to rescue us.

Nothing but the blood of Jesus can be our atonement for sin.

As You pour down showers of blessings upon us, may it overflow to others.

I raise up hallelujah!

Heavenly Father, please bless all who read this with salvation in Jesus and encouragement today.

What is Our Heart Pursing?

O. T. #1922  "What is Our Heart Pursuing?"

April 14

Ezekiel 33-Part 2

LET IT GLOW

For in thee, O LORD, do I hope: Thou wilt hear, O Lord my God. (Ps. 38:15)

For I will declare mine iniquity; I will be sorry for my sin.  (verse 18)

They also that render evil for good are mine adversaries; because I follow that thing that good is. Forsake me not, O LORD: O my God, be not far from me. Make haste to help me, O Lord my salvation. (verses 20-22)

David's suffering was open and exposed. He looked to God for help because there was no one to whom he could turn. His had led to his suffering and his enemies were too powerful for him. His suffering caused his loved ones and friends to avoid him. (Tony Evans)

Where do we turn when problems and trials come?

LET IT GROW

There was a group of Jews left in Jerusalem who thought that just because they were in the land promised to them that they would have fortunes restored to them. The survivors would soon have the same disasters catch up to them. (verses 27-29)

Their failure to put God's Word into practice was their problem. They failed to heed Ezekiel's messages.

Verse 31 says, And they come unto thee as the people cometh, and they sit before thee as My people, and they hear thy words, but they will not do them, for with their mouth they show much love, but their heart goeth after their covetousness.

These Jews said one thing and did another. They had a heart problem. They lacked a sincere desire to heed God's will.  Those people gave the appearance of following God, but they loved their money more.

Do we outwardly make the impression of being religious while remaining inwardly greedy? Jesus told us that we cannot love God and money at the same time. (Matthew 6:24) Isn't it easy to surrender all when we don't have much? And isn't it difficult to surrender all when we have accumulated wealth, thus avoiding loving it more than God?

What is our heart pursuing-wealth or God? He already sees into our heart, so we must be honest in answering that question.

LET IT GO

Run to our Father when we have need.

Make God our help, not wealth.

Stay focused on our heavenly home, not our earthly home.

We are almost home.

Where is Your Hope?"

O. T. #1921  "Where is your Hope?"

April 13, 2021

Ezekiel 33

LET IT GLOW

There are more notable verses of encouragement found in Psalm 37:

I have been young, and now am old; yet have I not seen the righteous forsaken, nor His seed begging bread. (verse 25)

Wait on the LORD, and keep His way, and He shall exalt thee to inherit the land: when the wicked are cut off, thou shalt see it. (verse 34)

But the salvation of the righteous is of the LORD: He is their strength in the time of trouble.  And the LORD shall help them, and deliver them: He shall deliver them from the wicked, and save them, because they trust in Him.(verse 39-40)

The steps of a good man are ordered by the LORD: and He delights in his way.  Though he fall, he shall not be utterly cast down: for the LORD upholdeth him with His hand. (verse 23-24)

The law of his God is in his heart; none of his steps shall slide. (verse 31)

Child of God, you are not forsaken. Are you waiting on your Lord Jesus to work in your situation? Delivery and strength and help is coming your way. Are we trusting in Him and trusting in Him? Are we watching where we are stepping? Our God is holding us with His hand. Is His law in our heart?

LET IT GROW

We finished the predictions of the outcome of nations that were round about Israel. Now in chapters 33-48, we see the glory of the Lord and His coming millennial Kingdom. Jerusalem was destroyed as the said it would. Ezekiel did a good job in pointing out their sins, need for repentance of idolatry, and coming judgment. Ezekiel's messages were then turned to those Jews in captivity (in Babylon). Before, they had no hope because of their sins. But in the future, Ezekiel sees hope for the children of Israel. It rested no upon philosophies, false gods, but upon the Word of God and what He said would take place in the future. Israel was moving toward a New Jerusalem, as they are now.

What is Ezekiel likened unto here? He is called the watchman of a city. It is mentioned 3 times (verses 2,6,7). In the Hebrew language, watchman means to lean forward; to peer into the distance; to observe; await; behold; wait for; keep the watch.

The duties of a watchman were to protect the walls, to watch for invaders from the top of the wall all during the hours of darkness. Ezekiel had been a faithful watchman who:

  • was warning that the enemy, Babylon, was coming.
  • continued to warn his people, even though they would not listen.
  • obeyed what God told him to say and do for 7 years, so those people who did not heed, their blood was not on Ezekiel.

What was the hope for those in captivity?

  • God does not take pleasure in the death of the wicked, and their sin could be forgiven. (verse 11)
  • If the wicked turned from their wickedness (repented), then did what was lawful and right, they would live. (verse 19)

Dear one, judgment is coming for those who do not ask God to forgive their sins, now while living. If they do not, then they will pay for their sins in hell for eternity. If they do, then Jesus will forgive them of their sins and cleanse them of all unrighteousness. See, our righteousness is as filthy rags, so we need to be covered in the blood of Jesus when we stand before Holy God after we die. Jesus has paid the price for our sins so we don't have to. Such love! Have you done this? Are you covered with the blood of Jesus? Our hope is in Jesus, not our works, not in Mary His mother.

LET IT GO

Help us to be faithful watch men and women, proclaiming hope in Jesus.

But salvation of the righteous is of the LORD... (Ps. 37:39)

Resting and Relaxing

O. T. #1920  "Resting and Relaxing"

April 12, 2021

Ezekiel 32

LET IT GLOW

We had a very relaxing and restful weekend. We had not gotten away since last July, so it was a long time coming. Sometimes you need to get away and rest the mind as well as the body. Stress can affect a person in a variety of ways. We have been waiting on the Lord to show us the right path He has for us. I think we are headed on road of faith that He wants us to be on. How about you?

Psalm 37 has a lot of good verses which cannot be skipped. We need to be reminded of these things.  So here they are:

Fret not thyself because of evil doers, neither be thou envious against the workers of iniquity.(v1)

For they shall soon be cut down like the grass, and wither as the green herb. (v2)

Trust in the LORD, and do good; so shalt thou dwell in the land, and verily thou shalt be fed. (v3)

Delight thyself also in the LORD; and He shalt give thee the desires of thine heart. (v4)

Commit thy way unto the LORD; trust also in Him; and He shall bring it to pass. (v5)

And He shall bring forth thy righteousness as the light, and thy judgment as the noonday. (6)

Rest in the LORD, and wait patiently for Him: fret not thyself because of him who prospereth in his way, because of the man who bringeth wicked devices to pass. (v7)

Cease from anger, and forsake wrath: fret not thyself in any wise to do evil. (v8)

For evildoers shall be cut off: but those that wait upon the LORD, they shall inherit the earth. (v9)

When a word appears 3 times, I take notice. What is God saying to you and me about fretting?

Fret means angry, be hot, to blaze up, jealousy.

We are not to be jealous or angry at evildoers that prosper, for they will soon get what is coming to them. Our focus is to be on the Lord Jesus. We are to trust in Him, delight in Him, rest in Him, and wait patiently for Him.  As we do those things, we will be fed, we are to do good, commit our way to Him, and not be angry, nor do evil.

When we do those things, what will happen to us, God's children? We will be fed, given His desires for us, He will bring to pass His way for us, making it happen, cause our righteousness in Him to shine in us, and we will have peace.

 LET IT GROW

Egypt was a nation that worshiped all kinds of pagan gods, even those things of nature which God created.

As a lion is the king among animals, so Pharaoh likened himself to the powerful one among the nations. However, God likened him to the ugly crocodile in the muddy waters of the Nile River.(verse 2) It took a couple of months for the word of Egypt being conquered by the Babylonian army to reach the exiled Jews in Babylon. So it happened about 19 months after Jerusalem fell. God told Ezekiel to write a lament for Egypt, not for Judah. Egypt though they were so powerful that they would not be overcome. Pharaoh's crocodile-like power was no problem for God.

What happened?

  • God spread His net over Pharaoh and his armies using the Babylonians. (verse 3)
  • They hauled the Pharaoh up on the land and threw him out in an open field where the earth's scavengers could feed on his carcass. (verses 3-5)
  • Blood flowed through the land of Egypt and thick darkness covered it, like the 2 plagues the first time. (verses 6-8)
  • Other nations were appalled at Egypt's collapse; their kings shuddered with fear that it could happen to them. (verses 9-10)
  • Babylon's swords were brought against the swords of Egypt. (verses 11-12)
  • Even the animals in Egypt suffered as the land was decimated. (verse 13)
  • Its waters would flow like oil when the end came to Egypt. (verses 14-15)
  • The daughters of the nations were invited to take up the lamentation over Egypt. (verse 16)
  • Another prophesy against Egypt described Egypt as its arrival in the underworld, where it finds itself among many other nations that defied God and were gone down to the pit. (verses 18-23)
  • Other nations mentioned suffered the same fate as Egypt. (verses 24-30)
  • Even Assyrian army, who was in the land, was defeated by the Babylonian army. (verse 23)

God did all of this to the 7 nations so people would know He alone is the One True Living God. We wrapped up that section of Ezekiel. Tomorrow we will learn about the prophecies concerning Israel's future restoration. Doesn't that sound good?

LET IT GO

Jesus, You are my King.

Amazing love, how could it be, that You my King should die for me?

Amazing love, I know it's true, and it's my joy to honor You.

Help us Lord to not fret about things, but place them into Your hands.

Thank You for peace that floods our soul when we do this.

Brought Down off Our High Horse

O. T. #1919  "Brought Down off Our High Horse"

April 9, 2021

Ezekiel 31

LET IT GLOW

Looking at Psalm 36 today.

Thy mercy, O LORD, is in the heavens; and Thy faithfulness reacheth unto the clouds. (verse 5)

Ho excellent is Thy lovingkindness, O God! Therefore the children of men put their trust under the shadow of Thy wings. (verse 7)

O continue Thy lovingkindness unto them that know Thee; and Thy righteousness to the upright in heart. (verse 10)

Where does David turn to find relief from the wickedness that surrounds him? He meditates on God, comparing His faithful love, faithfulness, righteousness, judgments to the grandest aspects of the created world. (verses 5-6) (Tony Evans)

What is the priceless treasure that the wealthiest man in Israel had? It was the faithful love of God. Is God our source of abundance in provisions? Are we satisfied with the fountain of life, Jesus Christ? Is He our all in all?

Well, I thought I recalled that the Hebrew word for lovingkindness is the word checed (kheh'-sed) that means piety, beauty, favor, good deed, mercy, pity.

God's mercy and lovingkindness is what we need daily.

LET IT GROW

Ezekiel devoted four chapters to the judgment of Egypt and its Pharaoh that was coming. He asks Egypt, "To whom would you compare your greatness?" Assyria was the greatest power in that time. In the parable, Egypt is likened to a lofty cedar, and so is Assyria. Egypt was an ally before it was defeated by Babylon.  Probably, this was written two months before the fall of Jerusalem. Egypt was brought down by Babylon. Egypt's strength and beauty was its downfall. When God comes to contend with great nations, great people, and their great noise, they will become less than nothing. It happen to Pharaoh.

Does God need to bring us down off our high horse? Is pride going to be our downfall?

LET IT GO

Such lovingkindness You show me!

No side effects of my second Covid shot is evidence to me.

What a Day!

O. T. #1918 "What a Day!"

April 8, 2021

Ezekiel 30

LET IT GLOW

So we can find some hope amidst the doom and gloom of the Prophet Ezekiel warnings from God, we are looking into the book of Psalms.

Psalm 35 says:

Let them shout for joy, and be glad, that favor My righteous cause: yea, let them say continually, Let the LORD be magnified, which hath pleasure in the prosperity of His servant. (verse 27)

And my tongue shall speak of Thy righteousness and of Thy praise all the day long. (verse 28)

I will give Thee thanks in the great congregation: I will praise Thee among much people. (verse 18)

All my bones shall say, LORD, who is like unto Thee, which deliverest the poor from him that is too strong for him, yea, the poor and the needy from him that spoileth him? (verse 10)

And my soul shall be joyful in the LORD: it shall rejoice in His salvation. (verse 9)

David prays for safety in this chapter. His enemies are devising David's hurt, destruction, and evil against him. Aren't we thankful for the psalms he wrote?

It was a tough weekend. I kept trusting Jesus and asking for breast cancer to not be in me. (My sister had it, so I was worried. but worry is a sin, so I kept surrendering to God's will for my life.) I tell you, it was a hard thing. Doubt kept fighting my faith. Then Monday morning, good news came, a negative biopsy.  Did you hear me shouting for joy! What a day! How great is our God! His mercies never end!

Are you there, dear one? All we can do is put our troubles into the hand of Jesus.

LET IT GROW

Have you heard the phrase, "their day is coming?" It is in reference to them getting what they deserve. In Egypt's case, the judgment of God was coming to this prideful and idolatrous nation. Their day of the LORD was a near day, a cloudy day, a painful day, a day of pride falling, a day of desolation, a day of destruction of the land, a fearful day, a darkened day, a day of groanings, and a day of scattering of the Egyptians. What a day it was when the Babylonian army conquered Egypt and their Phaooah king died.

Friend, there is coming a day of no more sorrow, no more pain or suffering, no more evil, no more troubles. That day is the Day of the LORD Jesus, or when we believers are raptured out of here, or when we individually go to heaven. Are you ready for that day? Is Jesus your Savior?

LET IT GO

What a day that will be, when my Jesus I shall see; when I look into His face, the One who saved me by His grace!

In the meantime, I can only imagine!

Broken Hearts are Mended"

Ezekiel 29

LET IT GLOW

Here are some great scriptures found in Psalm 34 that David wrote.

I will bless the LORD at all times: His praise shall continually be in my mouth. (verse 1)

O magnify the LORD with me, and let us exalt His name together. (v. 3)

I sought the LORD, and He heard me, and delivered me from all my fears. (v.4)

O taste and see that the LORD is good: blessed is the man that trusteth in Him. (v. 8)

O fear the LORD, ye His saints: for there is no want to them that fear Him. (v.9)

The righteous cry, and the LORD heareth, and delivereth them out of all their troubles. (v.17)

The LORD is nigh unto them that are of a broken heart; and saveth such as be of a contrite spirit. (v.18)

Friend, is your heart broken and your spirit crushed? God is listening to your cries and mine. The hears, provides, and delivers us out of our afflictions and troubles, all of them. Are we praising God while going through bad times?

Keep thy tongue from evil, and thy lips from speaking guile. depart from evil, and do good; seek peace, and pursue it. (verses 13-14)

LET IT GROW

The seventh nation that is told will fall because of God's judgment upon them-Egypt. Egypt had great artistic treasures, a flourishing civilization, and world-renowned military power. Unfortunately, it was also evil, egotistical, idolatrous, and it treated slaves cruelly. We recall that while the Israelites were slaves in Egypt, the Egyptians worshiped all manner of birds, beasts, and bugs, plus the creation instead of the Creator. Pharaoh was another king who considered himself a god, as well as master of the Nile River. But we will recall how God defeated those Egyptian gods and proved He was Supreme, Almighty God.

King Josiah of Judah was defeated at Megiddo by a Pharaoh of Egypt. Judah's last 3 kings turned to the Egyptian army for help when Jerusalem was besieged by Nebuchadnezzar. Judah should have turned to God instead of Egypt. Actually, they should have repented of idolatry, but they did not.

It was about a year after the Babylonians siege of Jerusalem began that God gave Ezekiel this prophesy. Some 17 years later, it occurred-Babylon conquered Egypt. Then, for 40 years the Egyptians were captives to Persia. The Egyptian great power had their haughty spirit and pride brought down low. That great Egyptian power fell. It became a desolate place with no animal or human inhabitants for 40 years.

Its people would be regathered and its fortunes would be restored (verses 13-14). However, it would be the lowest of kingdoms and would never again exult itself over other nations.(verse 15) Then Israel would never again rely upon Egypt. (verse 16) (The Tony Evans Bible Commentary)

God is sovereign over nations and their leaders. (Proverbs 21:1) Are Americans prideful? Do we have idols that we spend time with instead of God? We should beware.

LET IT GO

Oh, how He loves us; oh, how He loves us.

It is well with my soul. How about yours?

Lord Jesus, take our brokenness and make us beautiful.

We can't make it on our own. We need You every hour.

Wisdom and Wealth

O. T. #1916 "Wisdom and Wealth"

Ezekiel 28

LET IT GLOW

There are some encouraging words sung by David that are found in Psalm 33:

Rejoice ye in the LORD, O ye righteous: for praise is comely for the upright. (verse 1)

Sing unto Him a new song...  (verse 3)

For the Word of the LORD is right; and all His works are done in truth. (verse 4)

By the Word of the LORD were the heavens made; and all the host of them by the breath of His mouth. (verse 6)

For He spake, and it was done; He commanded, and it stood fast. (verse 9)

But the LORD's plans stand firm forever; His intentions can never be shaken. (verse 11, NLT)

Blessed is the nation whose God is the LORD; and the people whom He hath chosen for His own inheritance. (verse 12)

But the eye of the LORD is upon them that fear Him, upon them that hope in His mercy. (verse 18)

Our soul waiteth for the LORD: He is our help and our shield. (verse 20)

Let Thy mercy, O LORD, be upon us, according as we hope in thee. (verse 22)

God's Word holds true; He is unfailing love. All He has to do is speak or breath a Word and it is so. All we need to do is look around us to see Him working and His works. We went for a drive last week. It had been 3 days since I had been out of the house after my biopsy. As we traveled down back roads along streams and hills, I saw beautiful dogwood and redbud trees in bloom spotting the countryside. Green grass dressed the hills as green leaves popped out on bare trees. Baby calves were looking at us as we passed by. There was a natural spring where people gathered to fill the empty jugs with its refreshing water. Do they know the Living Water, Jesus? How good it was to get out into the sunshine and experience the warmth of the Father.

LET IT GROW

Last time we talked about two of the four laments of the city of Tyre: their powerful ships, beautiful trees, merchandise and goods resulted in pride of what they had and what they had become; their arrogance and self-esteem led to their downfall. Their riches and merchandise could not prevent their destruction.

The heart of Tyre's king was lifted up by virtue of his wisdom, beauty, and riches to the point where he declared himself to be God. (That is blasphemy.) (verse 2 and 9) (Nebuchadnezzar and Herod did the same, and God dealt with them as He did this king.) Tyrus thought himself wiser than Daniel. (verse 2)But he could not really and truly be righteous and wise, for he was a worshiper of Baal. He died a shameful dead at the hands of strangers. (verse 10) Nations that defy God are brought to ruin.

Their idolatry ensnared Israel into worshiping Baal and Ashtaroth, idols of pagan gods. So judgment came because they were a prickling brier or grieving thorn to Israel. The Babylonians and then the Persians destroyed Tyre. Alexander the Great did it in 333 BC and the Romans in 64 AD.

We know that wisdom and wealth belong to our God. If He bestows them upon us, it is for a reason, so we can share with others. How are you using wisdom and wealth?

LET IT GO

Jesus, we stand in awe of You.

We sing great are You LORD.

Behold the Lamb of God that takes away the sins of the world.

Let Your unfailing love surround us, LORD, for our hope is in You alone. (Ps. 33:22, NLT)

What Kind of Riches do You Have?

Ezekiel 27

LET IT GLOW

Blessed is the man unto whom the LORD imputeth not iniquity, and in whose spirit there is no guile. (Psalm 32:2)

I acknowledged my sin unto Thee, and mine iniquity have I not hid. I said, I will confess my transgressions unto the LORD; and Thou forgavest the iniquity of my sin. (Ps. 32:5)

Thou art my hiding place. (Ps. 32:7a)

I will instruct thee and teach thee in the way which thou shalt go; I will guide thee with Mine eye.

(verse 8)

LET IT GROW

Tyre, an ancient city of the Pheonicians, was a city located on the Mediterranean Sea, which had a powerful navy, a productive shipping business, and merchants travelled its land routes to Egypt and other nations.

Historically, the kings of Tyre were a friend of David, who help supply wood for the building of Solomon's Temple. They were ship builders and merchants by trade. They carried on commerce and trade using the barter system for actual goods. ((Verses 10-25) There are some 23 countries listed doing trade with about 38 products there. The first mention of Persia is found in verse 10. However, they sold Jews into slavery later. Tire's chief sin was pride. (verses 2, 5,17)

There were 4 laments of the funeral of the city of Tyre:

  1. The first oracle or lament describes Tyre's former greatness by comparing the city to its beautiful ships.  They were made of pine, cedar, oak, and cypress, along with ivory. (verses 5-6) The sails were made of embroidered lined from Egypt, with awnings of blue and purple fabric. (verse 7) Those ships were manned by the best rowers, captains, and repairmen. (verses 8-9) It was well protected by an army of mercenaries from other lands (verses 10-11), and its trading partners included nations from all over the known world carrying every kind of merchandise imaginable. (verses 12-25)
  2. When God's east wind of judgment blew on Tyre (verse 26), it fell. Her sailors cried out in their own lament and mourned for their great city that had come to ruin. Her trading partners would shudder at the great city's utter destruction. (verses 28-36) What would be lost would include wealth, merchandise, goods, sailors and captains, those who bartered for goods, all warriors on board, as well as those people in Tyre.

Material riches should be viewed as a gift from the Lord. Believers are encouraged to be good stewards of all He entrusts to us. As we are blessed, we should share with those in need. When God's judgment comes, no stocks, safety deposit box, nor material things, gold or silver, will help. So don't put your eggs in one basket. We should be sending up eternal valuables to our eternal home. There are souls who need told of the love, grace, mercy, and eternal provision of Jesus Christ. It comes through faith in Him, not wealth or societal position , nor power, but faith. Where is your treasure?

Spiritual riches should be our goal. Are we rich in faith, love, joy, peace?

Ezekiel 26

LET IT GLOW

Looking at Psalm 31, there are some reassuring phrases that David gave us:

  • In Thee, O LORD, do I put my trust;
  • deliver me in Thy righteousness' (verse 1)
  • be Thou my strong rock;
  • deliver me speedily; (verse 2)
  • For Thou art my rock and my fortress;
  • therefore for Thy name's sake lead me, and guide me. (verse 3)
  • Into Thine hand I commit my spirit: Thou hast redeemed me, O LORD God of truth. (verse 5)
  • My times are in Thy hand: deliver me from the hand of mine enemies, and from them that persecute me. (verse 15)
  • Make Thy face to shine upon Thy servant: save me from Thy mercies' sake. (verse 16)
  • Oh how great is Thy goodness, (verse 19a)
  • Blessed be the LORD: for He hath shewed me His marvelous kindness in a strong city. (verse 21)
  • Be of good courage, and He shall strengthen your heart, all ye that hope in the LORD. (verse 24)

How is the Lord described? He is righteousness, a strong rock, deliverer, leader, guide, truth, holder of our life, merciful, goodness, marvelously kind.

What are we to do? We are to put our hope, and trust in Him. We are to commit our spirit to the Lord God. Then be of good courage, for He is in control of our life.

LET IT GROW

The fifth to be under God's judgment was Tyre, the capital of Phoenicia, located just to the north of Israel. It was actually a city along the seacoast of the Mediterranean and very powerful with its navy and seafaring trade. they considered themselves a god , worshiped riches, were self-sufficient. Although they did not deal wickedly with Israel, they had a bad influence on God's people.

There were 4 judgments against Tyre.

1. The wealth and power of Tyre prompted greed.

2. They were glad when Judah fell.

3. They caused other nations to fall into materialism.

4. They would control more of the trade routes in the area and to Egypt.

Are we careful not to become greedy people? do we protect our family against materialism? Are we controllers?
