Freedom

 July 4,. 2023

In 1776, America declared its independence from England. So we have been a free country some 247 years. We have freedom of religion, not dictated by the country. We have freedom of speech, to express our beliefs. We have freedom to bear arms, to protect ourselves, family, and possessions.

What has kept us free as individuals and a nation is those who have fought for our nation against other countries who tried to dominate the world and America. Just think of the wars in which our country has been involved. Although more have been on foreign soil, our military kept us free.

As a believer in Christ Jesus, we are free. Here are some verses concerning our freedom:

And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free. (John 8:32)

If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed. (John 8:36)

What is truth?

The Tony Evans Bible Commentary defines truth this way: Truth is the absolute standard by which reality is measured. We live in a relativistic society that denies absolute truth, claiming, "What's true for you may not be true for men." But truth is not based on our feelings, experiences, or desires. Truth is God's viewpoint on every matter, and it is not subject to redefinition. Knowing the truth results in genuine freedom. The knowledge of truth liberates. Deliverance comes when we know the truth-that is, when we hang out in what God says. When this happens, we will experience the truth setting us free from illegitimate bondage.

Free means unrestrained ; not a slave; exempt; at liberty; deliver; to liberate.

Are you free from the bondage of sin?

There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit. For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death.  (Romans 8:1-2)

If we are a believer in Jesus, God says we stand before Him with zero condemnation. Paul speaks of a new law-the law of the Spirit of life. Unlike Moses' law, this one can set you free from sin and death. Which law are we operating under now? The Spirit's law transcends the law of sin so that sin no longer controls the agenda.so we must walk according to the Spirit, not the flesh. We must continually take steps, calling on God to do in us what we could never do alone.

To be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace. (Rom. 8:6)

As free, and not using your liberty for a cloak of maliciousness, but as the servants of God.          (1 Peter 2:16)

Are you free from the bondage of sin? Have you been set free through the blood of Jesus? Simply admit your sins, asking Jesus' forgiveness. Believe Jesus is God's Son and Savior, and commit your life to Him. Then the Truth will set you free.

Tomorrow we will continue our study in Matthew.

Be safe and thank God for our freedom.

In Christ,

Linda
