Matthew 7 Summary
LET IT GLOW
Did you notice as we reviewed the Sermon on the Mount, there was one major point I left out? (previous post) It was the Golden Rule, a very important point which Jesus made. Treat people the way you want to be treated.
This would include not judging others justly. (The degree to which we judge others ,we ourselves will be judged.) It would mean modeling for others the rich, loving benevolence God the Father has poured out on us. Because of the inexpressible, unconditional grace God bestows upon us, we ought to show the same kind of unconditional grace toward others. We are to live in this selfless, other-centered way, thus fulfilling the Law and the Prophets.
[Swindoll's Living Insights, Matthew 1-15]
Are we showing others grace that we want God to show to us?
LET IT GROW
We can gain 4 life-changing principles to help us on our journey of discipleship in service of the King Jesus. How can we apply the?
- Exhortation must come from a position of love and humility rather than hypocritical pride. (verses 1-5) Examine our own behavior before speaking about another's behavior.
- Discernment must temper our declaration. (verse 6) Be alert, sensitive, and discerning as we share the gospel with others.
- Persistence must characterize our prayers. (verses 7-11) Trust the Lord's wisdom, goodness, and power to give us what we pray for as we seek what He wants for us.
- Modeling must accompany our message. (verse 12) Our action of the Golden Rule needs to reflect grace, mercy, love shown to us by our loving heavenly Father. (Swindoll)
LET IT GO
... of self and let God rule in me.
