Are You Wheat or Chaff?

N. T. #18 "Are You Wheat or Chaff?"

March 2, 2023

Matthew 3-Part 7

LET GLOW

Whose fan is in his hand, and he will throughly purge his floor, and gather his wheat into the garner; but he will burn up the chaff with unquenchable fire. (verse 12)

LET IT GLOW

In the Greek language, fan means winnowing-fork.

The fan was like our pitchfork, a tool used by the farmer to pitch grain. Dad used to use it to get the hay left over in the back of the pick up when he had finished throwing out the bales of hay to the cows in the field. (Hay is dried cut grass baled together with twine wrapped around it to keep the sections together.)

So the farmers in biblical times used such an instrument (fan) to separate the wheat from the chaff in order to use it for food. Chaff is the seed covering. We eat the seeds of grain used in cereal and flour, which is ground up. Wheat is the good part, while chaff is the bad part for people.

Farmers back then would us the winnow to toss the grain into the air so the wind would separate the wheat and the chaff.  They would gather the wheat for use and burn the chaff.

LET IT GROW

When Jesus returns, He will gather His own (believers) wheat who love Him and take them to heaven. Then He will judge those who do not and judge them with justice.

Those who will not repent of sins and receive Jesus as Savior will experience the eternal wrath of God for their sins with fire that never goes out. (Tony Evans)

Have you received Jesus as your Savior?

LET IT GO

Jesus keep us near You, a precious fountain of grace.

May we be a witness of Your love for sinners today.
