Matthew 5-Part 7

Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God. (verse 9)

LET IT GLOW

Doesn't it seem as though there is always a conflict in our world? It may be between spouses, siblings, parent and child, employees and employer, even between nations. Someone needs to step up and be a peacemaker, help resolving problems and disputes so peace can flow.

Who are the peacemakers? 

• They are at peace with God and live in peace with all men. (Romans 5:1) 
• They follow peace with people and holiness, without which no man shall see the Lord. (Hebrews 12:14)
• They enter the peace of Christ and thus are able ambassadors of God's message of peace to a troubled world. (Liberty Bible Commentary)

Peacemakers are pacificatory (settle disputes); peacable.

To be at peace is to be in harmony. It's a mediator who resolves conflicts between estranged parties-whether individuals or groups. We make peace by identifying the truth, addressing the sin, and constructing a bridge between those who are at odds with one another. (Tony Evans)

Peacemakers erase divisions and reconcile differences, eliminating strife, silencing tongues, and building right relationships. There are plenty of troublemakers in the world, but are we a peacemaker? 

LET IT GROW

Jesus was sent to be our Mediator, bridging the gap created by our sin and granting us peace with God. Also, He resolves tension, strife, and hard feelings, as well as hurt feelings between people. When we look at ourself, we realize we are a sinner and self-centered just like the other person.

What will peacemakers be called? They will be called children of God.
