N.T.#268 "What Does God Hate?"
March 21
Matthew 24-Part 3
LET IT GLOW
Despite all the tribulations to come-deception of false teachers, wars, persecutions, natural disasters, defections from Christ, and all the obstacles to the spread of the gospel-the message ultimately penetrates every part of the globe. (MacAurthur)
Those are the signs of the end times, the rapturing out of the church will result in Satan's free reign on earth. The "abomination of desolation" is referred to by Daniel 3 times. (9:27.,11:31; 12:11)
Abomination means a destration; idolatry.
Webster defines destation as an extreme hatred or dislike.
When God detests something, He hates it.
In 168 BC, Aniochus Epiphanes, king of Syria, offered a pig upon the altar in the Temple, which was made into a shrine to Zeus. The Roman ruler Titus destroyed the Temple in 70 AD, some 40 years after Christ. Paul said the Antichrist will set up an image in the Temple during the future Tribulation (2 Thess. 2:3-4), as well as John in Revelation 13:14-15).
So abominations is not just a long word, but is like unto idolatry. Now that is serious.
LET IT GROW
What are some things that God hates, detests, or is an abomination to Him? Proverbs lists them:
- haughtiness, lying, murdering, scheming wickedness, eagerness to do wrong, a false witness, stirring up conflict. (6:16-19)
- violent people (3:31)
- sacrifice and ways of the wicked (15:8-9)
- the proud (16:5)
- judging unjustly (17:15).
LET IT GO
We surrender our thoughts, our emotions, and our will to You, Sweet Jesus.
Clean our hearts.
Show us what is displeasing to You.
May we lift up the standards the Bible teaches us.
